I'm at the Minneapolis airport getting ready to fly home. The price of a People magazine is $6.99 plus tax. That price is printed on the cover. I asked the guy if People had a price hike. He told me that it was the airport addition. Was surprised. I know my home airport BWI is not allowed to inflate prices. Wha is the cost of People at a regular store?

I'm not sure what the price of People is at a regular store, but I just assume I'll be paying $25 for a small bag of nuts or $50 for a phone charging cord (hyperbole, kind of) at an airport.

I have one here at home and it's marked $3.49. Wow, twice the price at an airport. That's crazy!

Interesting. I often pick up a magazine at the airport but don't buy them regularly so hadn't noticed a price difference. Given the price of everything else in the airport store, I shouldn't be surprised but I am.

I'm not surprised. I'm a Minnesotan from birth, but the MSP airport just sucks monkey vomit. They don't let military automatically through the pre-check line--you have to pay the $80. And if some of your party has pre-check and some do not, they send you through the regular line, even if the boarding passes print out on the same sheet of paper. At both Dulles and Reagan National, military are automatically put through the pre-check line and our bags are frequently comped.

Wow. I never checked out the prices. I just assumed it would be the same as one in the grocery store. Guess I will be buying them before had !

I picked up a tiny bag of chocolate covered cashews at DFW yesterday. Went to pay and the cashier asked if I was aware they were $9.99. Um, no. I can get it reimbursed on my expense report, and my company would never question it. But I don't think anyone should pay 10 bucks for a handful of chocolate cashews. I went with a slightly less overpriced dove bar.

Last weekend I was in an arena with completely awful cell coverage on a Sunday morning before the closest mall was open--and I finished my book 😱 --with still 90 minutes left to kill before my son's game! Three magazines at the convenience store cost me just over $20 😖 I hate reading on my phone, but I've now thrown a couple things on there now in case I ever have a book emergency again!

I bought a People magazine last weekend at the Seattle Airport and I also paid 6.99.
I don't really buy magazines on a regular basis but I thought it was a bit much. I also thought that was the price of them everywhere not just in an airport.

The Minneapolis airport is THE most expensive airport to travel through in the entire USA according to the travel and expense office at my corporate office. They do everything they can to avoid booking travel in to, out of, or through Minneapolis because of what appears (as likely is) to be price gouging on every item possible.

Ugh! That is quite the price hike! I am traveling at the end of the month and will have to remember to buy any magazines before I leave my local store.

Airports raising the prices of things? Shocking.
Not.

that's why I always try to hit up the local used-book store before I go on a trip... people subscribe to magazines, read them, then trade them in for store credit. Barring that, I at least try to buy them in the grocery store beforehand (along with some snacks). Otherwise, I assume I'll be paying thru the nose for anything at the airport store.
eta: related note, one of the magazines I bought was National Geographic, for either $4.99 or $5.99 (I can't remember). Anyway, there was a subscription card in the magazine: 12 issues for $12. I haven't subscribed to a magazine in YEARS, but that price is way too good to pass up.

crimsoncat05 I love NatGeo, and for that price, I would pick up a subscription, too. $6.99 for a PEOPLE magazine is insane.

The prices constantly change: www.magazinediscountcenter.com/www.discountmags.com/Going through my email receipts: This year I ordered 10 issues each of HGTV Magazine, Health, and Women's Health's magazine for $2 each. And 6 issues of National Geographic Traveler for $2. In December I bought 12 issues of Money magazine for $10 and Kiplinger's Personal Finance mag for $8. A year ago I ordered 24 issues of Oprah for $8, 12 issues of Conde Nast Traveler and Allure for $5.
