I just poked around a little on-line last night to see what to expect with Prime Day this year. I bought some really good deals last year.
I didn't find where they have released the actual deals yet, but I did learn some things. For example, if you have Alexa, you'll get access to the deals two hours earlier than everyone else. And if you have never ordered via Alexa before, you can do so in the next day or so (expires soon) and get a $10 Amazon credit -- this only applies, I think, if you order one of the daily deals. I got my mom a bag of $2.49 gourmet popcorn last night via an Alexa order and will therefore get the $10 credit. Not bad.
Also, the Amazon app will allow you to preview the Prime Day deals before they come up and you can tap "watching" to be able to access them more easily when they go live.
They are giving away daily prizes right now on the app, too. Go to the top right corner of the home screen and scroll down to "win prizes."

I need to figure out if I 'need' anything. Last year I bought my IP. I can't think of anything I really 'need' this year.

just spotted this in an online article: "Though Prime Day is technically Tuesday, July 11, this year, it officially begins at 9 p.m. ET on Monday, July 10."
