OK, I'm feeling really, really bourgeois here, but if I were trying to wean my family off plain white bread, I would go Sara Lee Honey Wheat loaf bread. It's darned close to white, but makes you feel like you're being healthier. It might not actually *be* any healthier. But it *feels* healthier.

We eat virtually no bread as we try to stay 80 percent plus compliant to Whole 30. However, I do keep spelt bread in the freezer for those times it's needed. We don't like the Ezekial bread - it's too chewy. I can't remember the name of the brand we've been buying of spelt bread, but I get it at Publix.

Lol I opened this thread hesitantly as I was a bit concerned about what a "white-store" was... :-D

Another Orowheat Health Nut fan here. I freeze it, as I usually like it toasted for sandwiches, and it it is quite good. Easily found in most grocery stores.

I recently got two loaves of Dave's Killer Bread from Sam's and they were moldy within days of the purchase. That was the first time that's happened. Very disappointing. We buy 2 and freeze them! Only take out the slices you need. It thaws fast and it great after being frozen! This is what we do since it takes us so long to go through a loaf during summer when kids aren't packing sandwiches every day. I take it one step further and make sandwiches using the frozen bread. It defrosts just fine by lunchtime.

For s while we were getting one of those trendy seeded breads like Dave's Killer (not sure if it was that brand) but it got moldy before we got thru 1/2 the loaf. I do like Orowheat's Healthnut. I can't bring myself to pay the $$ for Dave's Killer Bread, but every once in a while I can catch the Orowheat Healthnut for a decent price. (We keep our bread in the refrigerator- since it's so dry here, and we don't eat bread all that often, if we left it out on the counter it would go bad before we could eat 1/3 of a loaf.)

My kids don't like seeds in their bread, so if we don't have homemade then their favorite is Nature's Own 100% Whole Wheat. They also like the Market Pantry Whole wheat bread at Target and it's very affordable. Either one of those would be a good transition bread before you try sprouts and seeds. ;-)
(I love seeds etc and I usually have a loaf of Silver Hills sprouted bread in the freezer for occasional toast.)

Lately I've been loving Walmart's brand - Great Value Multi Grain bread. I love it a little too much.

Pepperidge Farms 100% whole grain whole wheat bread is good. Not seedy and just the right amount of sweet.

I buy and like the bread from Whole Foods. DS likes the (sorry I'm drawing a blank here on the brand) whole wheat bread and I like the Fire Bread that I buy from the bakery at Whole Foods but it's a very dense fiber bread.
As far as bread going moldy, I keep the Fire Bread in the freezer and only take out what I need at a time (2 slices) and stick it in the toaster oven to thaw out. DS's bread goes in a sliding metal bread box that keeps it from going moldy before it gets used up.

I have never heard of that? where do you buy it? Check their website. For those that say it molded on you, I kept my in the refrigerator and had no problem with it keeping for a few weeks. This is what we do too, with all of our bread and buns and never have a problem. One of my friends said that it dries out the bread to store it in the fridge, and at the time I countered with "My options are either storing it in the fridge and actually getting to eat some of it or having the dog steal *all* the bread off of the kitchen counter and me having no bread. I choose to keep it in the fridge." I personally haven't noticed that my bread ever gets dried out from keeping it in the fridge.

My kid isn't crazy about 'seedy' bread, so no Dave's but we all love love this one, Milton's Healthy Whole Grain we get it at Costco. The bread is super soft and it lasts pretty well. I buy the double pack and freeze one loaf while we eat off the one.

My husband and kids like Orroweat Potato bread. It's a whole grain white bread. I don't like it, but I don't really like any breads or rolls. (We had take out from Smashburger tonight, and when I got home I promptly took my burger off the bun and ate it with a fork ). On the very rare occasion I want a peanut butter and fluff sandwich or toast I prefer King Soopers/Kroger brand whole wheat bread. Oh yeah, I will always eat bread if it's got a hole cut out, buttered and fried with an egg in the center!

Nature's Own 100% whole wheat is super soft and not "grainy". This may be an easier transition than whole grain. It is sold under different brands in different areas, so I provided a link. The basic design of the bag would look very similar, just different name, possibly. NUTRITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS No artificial preservatives, colors or flavors No high fructose corn syrup 100% whole grain 13 grams of whole grain per serving 2 grams of fiber per slice 0 grams of trans fat Low fat www.naturesownbread.com/sandwich-bread/100-whole-wheat

Went to get some of that Dave's killer bread today, and nope! not to be found. There's a brand called Eureka? is that the same?

I'm a white bread to wheat bread convert. I had to start slow with the Sara Lee "wheat" white bread and keep getting closer to real wheat bread. I still don't want twigs and bark in my bread so I stick to 7 grain bread, I'm not sure of the brand but it is in every major grocery chain.

my BF loooove Orowheat Potato bread, and I wouldn't have ever considered it a whole grain bread... but then again, that's because I like 'sticks and twigs' in my bread, lol. It's weird; I hated wheat bread when I was a kid, but I actually like having bread with seeds and nuts in, now. Not necessarily for a grilled cheese sandwich, mind you, but if I'm just eating a slice of bread, I like it to have some 'interest' I guess you'd say.

You're right, I read to many of the other post about whole grain and that was on my brain when typing! It's made with wheat flour mixed with potato flour (which I didn't know was a thing for baking!). I don't like how dense it is, but I'm a terrible judge of bread.

Another vote for Daves. There is a white version. Maybe try that one. It is expensive and I generally have to throw some of it away before we go eat it all because it has molded.
