I'm trying to get my family off the old white bread. Wanting something healthier, but good tasting. They have really not liked the whole grain breads, too dry, etc. So what store bought bread have you found your family likes the best?

Another vote for Dave's. But it might be too dramatic a change for your family. It's very nutty.

Arnold makes a Country White that is whole grain, but a lot like white bread. We use that for pb & j and sandwiches like that. For lunch meat sandwiches, we use a 12 grain bread from Pepperidge Farm. My family likes the heartier breads with meat.
I think the Country White would be a good transition bread. Get them used to that before you switch again.

We like Pepperidge Farm oatmeal bread. They also have an excellent whole wheat and 12-grain, but those have too many seed bits for my diverticulitis issues.

For s while we were getting one of those trendy seeded breads like Dave's Killer (not sure if it was that brand) but it got moldy before we got thru 1/2 the loaf. I do like Orowheat's Healthnut.

We eat Franz Lake Washington Honey Oat & Nut. Even our super picky one likes it, but I'm not sure if it's a national brand or just the PNW.

We had the same problem with some of the organic brands. We just don't go through the loaf fast enough. We buy Oroweat 100% wholewheat.

I eat it for breakfast and there's no dairy in it--unusual for raisin bread! It's getting more popular--even the commissary sells it now (but not raisin bread).

Making your own bread is super, super easy. Try this fail safe recipe and see what they all say. Start it today - eat it tomorrow. When you get proficient with working the dough you can actually make it the same day. Takes just 5 minutes. www.splendidtable.org/recipes/five-minute-artisan-bread

Another Dave's bread fan. We like the yellow one. 21 grain I think it's called? Target, Costco, Kroger, Safeway, etc carry it.

I recently got two loaves of Dave's Killer Bread from Sam's and they were moldy within days of the purchase. That was the first time that's happened. Very disappointing.

Walmart carries Dave's Killer Bread.
We can't get through a loaf of bread before it molds. The boy and I rarely eat bread, unless it is homemade. So, DH buys Ezekiel bread in the frozen, organic section. He buys their pita bread, too.

I have never heard of that? where do you buy it? Check their website. For those that say it molded on you, I kept my in the refrigerator and had no problem with it keeping for a few weeks.

I've enjoyed brownberry's bread. They have a few varieties that range from very health nut to mild enough to please everyone. I enjoy their honey wheat.

We too love Dave's Killer bread. Right now I'm hooked on the 21 grain version. I can get it anywhere. All my local stores including Walmart, Costco and Target carry it. I love the bread, don't have issues with molding and I love their story/philosophy.

Takes just 5 minutes. www.splendidtable.org/recipes/five-minute-artisan-breadThe 5 minute artisan bread was my "gateway drug". I haven't bought bread in years. Recently,I even made my own sourdough starter, and have been baking bread almost every weekend. Sometimes multiple loaves a day. I will never, ever buy bread again. Baking your own bread is so easy! If you are interested, but feel intimidated at the same time, feel free to PM me!

Another Dave's fan here. I've hated wheat bread my whole life because it is so bitter to me but Dave's isn't bitter at all. Love it.

I buy this bread and since it is just me and I'm not a huge bread eater, I immediately put both loaves into the freezer. When I want to make a sandwich, I pull out two pieces of the bread and will typically toast it, but if I'm not toasting it, it doesn't take too long to thaw out and it is still awesome and fresh tasting. I even got my mom hooked on this bread she she was living with me. She made both of my sisters buy it for her when she was visiting them. It is worth the money. I also like the information I read about the company. SaveSave

When I was a little girl, my mother made us eat that gross brown bread...you know the stuff back in the 70's that was pressed into hard as rock slices of really dark bread that no amount of peanut and jelly that could help make it less like eating crumbly sawdust? And all wrapped up in about 800 layers of plastic to make you think that you just might get that one slice that was softer than timber wood?? To this day, I buy white bread. (but I hardly eat bread, if I did, I would probably consider buying something healthier...good luck!! )
