I have a friend that has been trying new mexican recipes lately by Rick Bayless. I would like to scrap a recipe book for her with new recipes for her to try ( I think it would be more personal then just ordering a cookbook for her). Has anyone done something like this? I need all the help I can get..please share your ideas or pictures with me. TIA for your help.

I haven't, but one of my scrappy friends did for her daughter. She had family members send pictures of them with a favorite recipe. She typed all the recipes and scrapped the pictures. I think it was an 8x8 or 6x8 book. She kept to one color theme/patterned paper throughout I believe. It was spectacular. I have been wanting to do something like this. I bet there are ideas on Pinterest.

Sorry to monopolize your thread, lol, but I did buy a Bo Bunny Project Life style 6x8 album, page protectors, and inserts that were customized for recipes. Haven't done anything with it yet, but there were a lot of different options. This would probably be the fastest/easiest. I got it from a vendor at a crop I was at in February,Cranberry Cat. They do have a website...

I just started a recipe project. I took an online digi class at Scrapaneers called KIT:The Recipe Edition. Although I didn't care for the instructor, the papers or the templates, it gave me some ideas and got me pointed in the right direction. The only thing I'm using from the class is the idea and the background colors. I created my own template in PSE as 8.5 x 11 and will print out the pages and put them in a page protectors in a 3 ring binder. That's how I currently have my recipes, but they aren't organized, some are handwritten, some have teeny-tiny print, and its very messy. Oh, and each section has it's own background color ==> meats, chicken, vegetables, snacks, breads, soups & stews, appetizers So anyway, I'm taking my favorite recipes making them, then taking a photo of the finished product. I've asked my family and friends for their favorites recipes and a photo. Hopefully around Christmas (shhhh, don't tell anyone) I will put binders together for family and friends. It's a work in progress. Here is an example (the section under the photo I'm using for notes or stories, but I've removed them for posting here) BTW - I don't know Becky Higgins, I got this off her blog a long time ago. .

Here's a link to a quick search I did on Pinterest. Tons of ideas with pictures! I checked out the pinterest link. Wow, some of those are very elaborate and I wouldn't want to use them in the kitchen. Even though I'm a clean cook, I still get spills on my pages. That's why I use page protectors - they can be wiped clean.

Love this template that you used . It's simple but very nice. I'll have to see if I can find a template similar to this online.

I plan on making a couple of books for my kids as Christmas gifts. I picked up some spiral bound recipe books with card sleeves for $6 each at Tuesday Morning, and retro Cosmo Cricket scrapbook kits. My plan is to take out the existing recipe cards, replace them with my favorite recipes, and completely cover the outside with new paper and decoupage.
Thanks for sharing the link. I look forward to checking it out.

I haven't made one myself but have been thinking seriously of doing it. I was once part of a circle journal and one of the girls wanted recipe pages. It was fun to make and in 6x6 size, quick to make and convenient for her to store.

The ones I have made in the past were gift books for friends and I used a favorite recipe or two from each of them. For those, I didn't have photos, but used sb papers & stickers appropriate for each recipe. (IE: Mrs. G's stickers of monkeys wearing chef's hats and holding cooking items for the Monkey Bread recipe). I used the "half-pint" sized albums from Living Oak which I found at Michaels (they don't carry them anymore) - the size is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 (half the size of an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of pp). Sometime soon I need to start on organizing my own recipes and I'm going to use WRMK albums of that same size, although they seem to be getting harder to find. (Mine came from Joann's online.) The page protectors can be found at Staples or Office Depot, sometimes WalMart. I agree with using page protectors since I always manage to drop something on my recipes when cooking! I hope you find something that works for you - have fun! Maria

I made 6 x 6 ones for my daughters when they moved out, filled with recipes of their favorite dishes. Super simple, but now I want to make myself an altered index card box for recipe cards

I haven't made one as a gift, but I'm toying with the idea of making one for myself just for the Christmas cookie recipes we have made in my family for decades, with the idea that when DD is grown she will be able to take it and have all of those recipes in one place. I would also like to make a copy for my niece who always used to come bake with me before she moved out of state. I saw a PL recipe set at Michael's that I've been sitting on the fence about buying, maybe I should just get one and play around with it.

I have done 2 recipe scrapbooks as gifts for my daughter's kindergarten teacher and her 3rd grade teacher. Each child in the class supplied a recipe and a photo and I put a winter-themed scrapbook together- unfortunately I didn't take any pictures- I wasn't in the scrapbooking community at that time and had no scrappy friends... Both teachers loved it!

I've done them for all my sisters, all my kids, my parents, and every niece and nephew that gets married. I use the 8.5 by 5.5 books. I sometimes use pictures of the food, of the person whose recipe it is, or just random things. I haven't taken pictures of them, but they are well received.

Forgot to mention that I did a 12x12. Also most of the recipes were printed on a tag and put in an envelope on each page- I wanted the photos of the children to be the focal point

I made one for my niece's bridal shower. I included family recipes and a photo of each person to go with the recipes. I sometimes just photocopied a photo onto archival quality paper.

My daughter got married two months ago - as soon as the "save the date"cards was sent, my sister contacted everyone and asked for a favourite recipe - and made a book for the wedding, actually she made three books, because everything couldn't fit into on . The book included copys of handwritten recipes for both of my daughters great-grandmothers (both dead before she was born)

I did. I gave recipe books to both my kids when they moved out (or were about to) with the family favorites. I put the recipes on 4x6 cards that can be removed from the book, and the pages were a 5x7 album that I covered the front of. I used plain papers for the most part inside, but the divider pages were prints. It was very simple but both kids love it.
I am doing one in a 6x6 album of all the holiday specific recipes we make.

After our grandma passed away, I inherited her recipe box. I made photocopies of her handwritten recipes and made mini albums for my brother and sister.
