does it have a glossy seal? that might effect your ability to mark on it?

You'll need to use some kind of ceramic markers (like Pebeo brand) Otherwise it'll wash off. I know there's all kinds of pinterest pins that say you can use plain sharpies, but they wash right off, you need an oil based paint type marker.
