We want to get a treadmill but don't have a clue what a good treadmill includes. I would assume you want it to be able to incline-but don't they all do that? What sorts of things should I look for? Do you have one you like?

Best advice: don't buy one. I bought one a few years ago. It is huge and takes up tons of room. It folds up, but I don't want to risk it falling on a pet or grandchild. I use it almost daily. I also regret buying it almost daily.

I just got one a few months ago and love having it. I wanted something basic so I was mainly looking for incline and speed control of course and a few programmed workouts but didn't care about hooking up to the internet or a Fitbit.. I ended up getting a Pro-Form at Academy Sports for a really good price. I do agree that it takes up a lot of space.

We have one that I used frequently until we moved. Best advice, if it is going in a room with carpet, put a mat under it. Trust me on this. No big deal for us because we put in new carpet before we sold our house. It is now in the garage but it's too hot to use. This fall I'll get back into using it.

Unless you have a dedicated room for exercise equipment, I would really suggest a gym membership. If you do decide that's what you really want, get a gym quality treadmill. It will have the features you want and will stand up to continued use.

Buy an eliptical. It is easier on the hips and knees. I bought it of amazon for$400. It has held up well - my kids run on it .
I went to buy the same machine at the local fitness store and it was $500 more with a $60 delivery fee and an $80 suggested tip just to bring it in my door.

The only way I would by one is if it came with its own person to run on it for me.

Mine (which is probably 10 years old) had an incline, and lots of speeds which is all I've ever needed... I guess it has programs, a fan and some other stuff I could use.... It has a cord that clips to your pocket or pants so if you fall backwards off the machine while trying to scratch your leg the machine immediately turns off...

I have a pacemaster gold which was definitely a little more than we wanted to spend but we had tried cheaper models and they just didn't feel right for us. Plus, I did want one that folds (why I don't know since we never fold it) and wanted something very stable and substantial feeling.
It is probably 7 years old and still extremely dependable. It is in our living area which is annoying but we have nowhere else to put it. Luckily we have more than one living area.
You may not know this but treadmills are so incredibly boring! I just can barely stand it. Ellipticals are boring too and seem so hard (tiring) but if you can work up on it you can burn a lot of calories.
Good luck. I do love our treadmill even though I prefer the rec center since I am easily bored. We don't regret buying it.

One thing to consider is the size of the belt. You want a long enough belt that you can run with a long stride easily (more important if you're tall). And the width matters as well, or you'll feel cramped and may even step off the belt.

DS and my dad have no problem with it, but I stub my toes on the top of ours. I never would have bought this one had I known. It doesn't hurt but it's really annoying for sure. It was in the basement with the spiders and it stayed there for 20 odd years.

For us it was length because I'm tall and we bought ours for conditioning the dogs. Dh got a great deal on ours and we both use it in addition to the dogs. But I find it really, really boring.
I would look at used, which is what I wanted. I would also try out any large equipment before buying. I can't use an elliptical, it hurts my back. My step dad can't use a treadmill because of his hip and a coworker can't use an exercise bike. Everyone is a little different in how their body works with equipment.

Another person to say "Check out used ones" In Dallas there are stores that sell used gym equipment.
Our treadmill is about 7 years old. It does fold up, but is HUGE. HUGE. I wish I had another place to use it. I have it in BR so I can watch TV when using it.
DIL had one that folded down and slid under the bed, I don't know the brand.
I don't run on mine--just walk.

I would buy a used model from Craigslist or one of the FB sale boards, and save yourself a couple hundred bucks. Treadmills are one thing people buy and don't use as much as they think they will, and then they just want it out of their house.
I've owned mine for over 10 years and use it every winter. I pick a tv series to watch and only let myself watch episodes while I walk.

Need a quality brand (loved my NordicTrack). Needs a good fan that adjusts up and down at least. Needs a belt that is long and wide. Around the $800 to $1200 range should be fine, wouldn't go lower than that.
Loved my last treadmill, lasted 9+ years with some repairs, ran 4-6 days a week. Unfortunately it has finally died permanently and I am back to running outside, for the summer anyway.
