Personally I think the crowd surfing thing is beyond stupid anyway, and then to do it in a wheelchair? The guy already has physical problems, if he get dropped he could end up with even more not to mention the damage a chair could cause by falling on someone else.
I can't imagine there'd be so much love for this if your kid got a head injury or fracture because a guy in a wheelchair was crowd surfing.
By all means get him up on stage and make his day - but let security help him and get him up there via a proper ramp and don't risk anyone getting a major injury.

I'm gonna go with it being a silly thing to do. I'm also a bit jaded about the whole audience being called on stage thing, I don't buy concert tickets to see some random person performing. Disclaimer-I'm grumpy today!

My DD uses a wheelchair, and she is scared going down a steep hill or being tipped back to go up a high kerb. I can only imagine she would be terrified being lifted high enough to crowd surf. Inclusivity and common sense are not mutually exclusive!

My guess is because quite a few people are in wheel chairs because they were dare devils before they had an accident. Your personality probably doesn't change just because you lose the use of your legs. I had a friend who had a carve board which was like a skateboard on steroids, you could carve on it like you were surfing. He told me that so many guys in wheel chairs would say that it looked like so much fun, with a longing look because they knew they couldn't do it anymore.

My guess is because quite a few people are in wheel chairs because they were dare devils before they had an accident. Doesn't give them the go-ahead to engage in an activity that could result in another person ending up in a wheelchair. Imagine if him and his chair get dropped on the head or spine of another person? He's not doing this in isolation he's in a crowd of people and if anyone in the band had any sense at all, they would have stopped the show until he was put down again. It's all fun and games until someone snaps their spinal cord and spends the rest of their lives communicating with eye blinks and by blowing through a straw.

I think in this particular situation, based on the wording from the web page, that the only reason he was even seen to be called on stage was because he was crowd surfing. Do I see potential danger in any crowd surfing? Yes, absolutely, but since he was already doing it anyway, I am happy that he had the opportunity to go on stage. (I don't mind performers bringing folks up to stage in general, either, though.) When concert crowds do things I think are stupid or dangerous, I just try my very best to stay away from the people and/or activity. Unless venues and/or performers ban crowd surfing, it will likely continue. (In this case, though, it seems to have been rewarded.) To many the risk is worth the fun or the experience. It's not worth it for me, so I try to stay clear, but I don't mind if others do it as long as they don't involve people who are not willing to participate. I know sometimes unwilling people wind up bunched up in the group, and that I don't think is right at all. Save

I'm not saying it wasn't stupid or dangerous, I'm just saying if a person is in a wheelchair as a result of dangerous behavior they're still drawn to that behavior. If they didn't think about danger to themselves and others before they probably won't think about it later either.

I say good for him. I'm taking it that the majority poo-pooing this wouldn't be caught dead crowd surf in the first place, so who cares? Speaking of crowd surfing in a wheelchair, today on FB, I saw a really awesome photo from a concert in Canada.
