Nope. House is in escrow and we check on it regularly and all is well. Thanks for asking.

Update! Someone stole the parts to the A/C. I feel like it's the same people, being vindictive. I have no evidence, but for the same home to be hit twice so close together is too coincidental for me.

Open houses are a known hazard on a vacant home. It's hard to see all the little ways someone can compromise the security of a house. I just heard a new one yesterday where people sometimes hide in the crawl space. To combat it builders are now putting ribbons over the crawl space hatch so they can see if someone has opened it. It's important to check every window, every door, and yes, the garage especially because it's one spot most people overlook. And keep a count of everyone that came in and went out as well.
You have good neighbors though! yea for that!
Crossing my fingers for you that they've moved on to easier pickings.

This kind of occurrence is just mind boggling -- both that people have the audacity to do such a thing and that the legal owner can have so little recourse to fight them on it.

We are renting and were still cleaning the old house. We stayed away last Thursday because the home inspection was being done. When we went back on Friday, a window had been left open, several windows were unlocked, and the basement door was unlocked. Curtains were left askew and cupboard doors were open. Honestly, it looked like the place had been searched. As there wasn't a stick of furniture in the house, it was pretty obvious that it was empty. I haven't seen anything since, so I can only assume it was the inspector. I emailed the owner and realtor, but didn't hear back from the realtor. Hopefully she called him on it.

Yeah, that's why I always am there when the inspector finishes up. Around here the buyers like to be there at the end of the inspection as well, but no matter what I am there to make sure the house gets locked up properly. It's my business on the line if something happens to a home I'm listing and I don't want a seller to have to go through the nightmare either.

We moved out on the 17th, but still have to maintain the yard and house until the 31st. The owners don't live in state and I think the realtor reached the end of her goodwill before the house even went on the market. The house went under contract quickly, but has contingencies and I would imagine they are pretty big, as there is a big roof leak the homeowners didn't fix. 3 more days and we are done!
