My son plays Minecraft on his nook. Unfortunately the Nook did something weird and reset itself (not sure if it a battery issue) and he lost all his progress on his Minecraft. He wasn't using an outside server and truthfully, I don't know much about this server thing. Can anyone help me with that. Do you pay for the server and is there a recommended one? Also can you even do the server thing on the Nook?
Anyone else have battery or resetting issues on their Nook HD? We have had it for about a year - he won thru a PTA raffle at school, it was brand new.

I don't know about the Minecraft, but the battery issues are another story. I got my Nook HD for Christmas 2012. I got the extended warranty and am glad I did. I'm starting to have real issues with the battery depleting very quickly when I'm using apps. I'm going to have to call B&N and get it replaced soon--before my warranty runs out.
I check the B&N message boards regularly and there are a lot of people who are having battery issues.

I've never had my Nook (HD+) reset itself, nor do I have issues with battery life. I agree with checking out the B&N forums for the nook to see if anyone else has dealt with the Minecraft combination.

Minecraft can be set up in a myriad of ways to play too. My dd rents server space from a hosting site so that she controls who her kids are playing with and some of the functions of the game (like one player can't kill another player). It is easy to set up and costs just a few dollars a month.

I am shocked the Nook plays minecraft. My son finds it freezes on one of our old laptops. In general it's a pretty processing intense game - which you'd never guess as the graphics aren't very good. I've heard it's because of its heavy reliance on java, or it was just a poorly designed game - take your pick. I'm not sure how old your son is - you might see if one of his friends run a server. Then he can play games with people he actually knows. If you venture into other servers - which we are at least 3 years out of date on - you need to be research the servers. There are a lot of older kids, and even adults playing. Some of the behavior can be intense for the younger ones.

I didn't know that the Nook had the actual Minecraft game! My son will be thrilled that it does now. Last time we checked it just had Minecraft knock-off games like "Block Story". Unfortunately I don't have any advice on the Nook or servers on the Nook. Sorry.

I'm pretty sure that Nook plays the Minecraft Pocket Edition. That does not use outside servers. If you have wifi, anyone who has PE edition on their device can play together with one of the devices acting as server. The actual game is stored on your device, so unfortunately, if it's gone, it's gone.
