I have been working on my scrap space and just curious what are everyone's likes & dislikes of their personal space.
My likes I have my own room I have decent storage - 2 closets and some wall shelving above my desk I have room to keep my Cricut out all the time
My dislikes My room frequently becomes a dumping ground for everyone's stuff. It can get really out of control if I don't stay on it. Right now the hall outside my room is filled with things that need to go somewhere else. I have a total of 5 doors and 1 window in my space so I don't have much actual wall space to put things. Thankfully, my DH made me a Ikea hack storage unit that goes under the window.
Share what you love and hate about your space.

I have my own room with plenty of storage space.
The only thing I don't like is my chair. I have a high table (standing height) from Costco and I need a bar stool chair to be able to sit. I mostly stand because I don't like the chair I have, it's uncomfortable to sit on for long periods of time.

what i love? all the STUFF
what i don't love? that i had to downsize from an entire room to my bedroom. i don't have room to work or even move half the time. it drives me crazy and therefore i've hardly scrapped this year.
doesn't seem to stop me from buying though!

This is a great thread!
I love that I have a space with a door, and that it is a good size room (no idea how I would function with less space). The room is also quite warm (not ideal in the summer) but generally fabulous as winter lasts FOREVER here.
I dislike that the storage I have does not contain all the mess that I need it too. I realize that this is because I have too much stuff, but I am not wanting to destash right now. I like all my stuff. I have two desks in the room (along with my sewing machine cabinet. I am not sure if this is a good thing or not. One desk, when it is cleaned off, is my creating space. The other desk holds my cutting machines, printer, etc. and is configured as more of a work station.
I think mostly, I hate that it is a mess right now and I haven't been able to make a dent in organizing it in an effective way.

My likes: - It's my own space - It is a good size with a lot of wall space for storage - It makes me happy to be in even if I'm not crafting - It has allowed for a lot of growth and change over the years (although I'm now at capacity, lol) - It has a bathroom and therefore a sink (the entire bathroom was a godsend when I was pregnant, though) - All of the furniture looks good together. It's mostly Ikea with some other bits thrown in, but I honestly don't get the excitement from people in room tour videos when they show off a hodge podge of mismatched furniture they've acquired from yard sales or dumpster diving. It looks messy and disorganized even when everything IS organized...at least it does to me. I really love the cohesion of uniform colored furniture and matching organizational pieces. No 'candy buffet' using random milk glass for me. I understand that some people like the look and other people are happy just to have furniture at all because of budgetary concerns, it's just not my cup of tea. - I can close it off (it's a downstairs space) when people are over, especially people with children because I can close the door and still entertain. - The lighting - I had some electrical changes made a few years ago and in that, I had recessed lighting put in...before that, I had a single light on one side of the room, a floor lamp PLUS an ott light just to get by. Not anymore!! I also use daylight bulbs, so everything is nice and bright in here.
My dislikes: - It's closed off from everyone else so I'm separated from what goes on in the rest of the house - There isn't enough room to fit multiple people in here easily even though my goal when I made some modifications last year was to make that happen - There isn't a big open space in the middle for the giant work area that I would love to one day have that legitimately allows me to have multiple projects going on at once - This room isn't what it was initially intended to be (a former owner closed off the formal living and dining areas into a bedroom...my office...and a den...hubby's office) so the air circulation sucks...it's too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter unless I crank up or down the temps for the ENTIRE downstairs. It's easy to grab a portable heater...not so easy to grab a portable a/c, so I suffer in the hot months (I'd rather be too cold and have to layer up than too hot because there isn't much you can do about that...there's only so much you can take off, lol).
Honestly, other than the few dislikes I have that I hope to one day implement in my dream craft room (which requires a HUGE construction project...I want to close in the second story of our 2 story living room and make a family space...I'd probably occupy about 50 or 60% of the wall space and have a huge work area in the middle, but I could easily fit 3 work areas for my kids to craft and to do homework near me and my husband's office stuff would fit there with room to grow, I'm sure of it), I enjoy this room...it's not perfect, but it's more than I could have ever hoped for. It's the larger of the 'extra' rooms in the house and even though neither of us had much to fill the space when we viewed the house, hubby immediately said it was mine when I joked that we'd have to fight over who got this room. It's suited me well over the last 6 1/2 years.

I love that I have my own space! A loft area with plenty of natural light, room for storage and fun crafty stuff.
The only cons are that in summer, it can be unbearably hot and miserable to be upstairs. I'm not really complaining though - I used to craft on a small table in the family room.

i just moved into our enclosed side porch this spring from our tiny 3rd bedroom.
Pros: A/C, next to living room so DH and I can talk, lots more room, bathroom attached, lots of windows.
Cons: no storage (yet), no overhead light, have to share room with DHs big ass gun safe.

I love: - my own room with a door - it has a bathroom attached - that eventually in a few years we'll be rehabbing the room (We're rehabbing the entire house) and I'll get awesome lighting and electric outlets exactly where I need them. And by then, I'll know where I want it all to go.
I dislike: - It's the only working bathroom at the moment, but this will change. - that the room is off of the main living area. - that there isn't enough room. The treadmill is in here as is a large unit and a bookshelf for bathroom supplies and outdoor wearing gear (hats and rain jackets in spring to fall and scarves and gloves in fall to spring). Hopefully these will get moved to the upstairs linen closet once it and the upstairs powder room is finished. Or some could go to the other bathroom downstairs when it gets redone. - that it becomes the dumping ground when the family cleans up. Don't know what to do with it, well, it obviously goes on mom's craft desk. - only 1 long slim window
I love having my own space. But I need another bathroom available so guests do not have to go traipsing through my messy space.

I currently (as of 3 weeks ago) have a craft cart and 4 12x12 craft storage boxes.
Like: I love that I can just roll the cart into the dining room when I want to work I like that I can see everything I have in my rolling cart I love that the boxes are either old projects I'm not sure what to do with or supplies I only pull out to share at craft night
Dislike: I can't lay my 12x12 papers down so they are upright and I haven't found a divider/organizer tall enough to keep the papers from flopping a bit I don't have much room in the cart so I am limited in what I buy and can't really buy things just because I like them I hate the way the storage boxes look stored under my dresser but the second room is about to be occupied so there's no other choice

Like- More room to work Huge table, with wheels to work on Some storage, Im adding ikea rod and buckets selves behind a door but it's slow going into brick. Tons of windows, can watch kid out one while I sew Dislike- door to backyard I made part of room a play area for kid, but all the toys migrate over to my side Only one lighting fixture Huge table is covered with stuff so little space to work. Need more storage.

Dumping ground seems to be a common theme for scrap rooms. We need to take back our space! I spend most of my time in mine, so the door is always open...dumping ground in this house means 'taking toys away from the kids that they aren't playing with properly and making them inaccessible for a while'. Since my room is frequently accessed and my husband's is not...his is the dumping ground, much to his dismay. But I mean...he doesn't even clean up in there himself (he probably has a foot of paper on it at any given time and you can never find the paperwork you actually need in there), so I don't feel badly about it because if he doesn't care about how it looks, why should I? lol. I had to sneakily 'become irritated' with the mess one weekend and force him to go through it with me for a couple of hours because I had an anniversary project (I used the silhouette to cut out letters and used tombow mono to make them sticky...obv let it dry first so it would be repositionable...and then used sticky notes to write reasons why I love him) in mind that involved sticking things all over his wall and it wouldn't have been fun if the space was a mess and/or I had to climb all over things to get to the wall I was decorating. It didn't take long to become a huge mess again. When we first started dating, I was in my late teens and he was in his mid 20's (that sounds all sorts of wrong, but I was legal, lol) and I was such a slob...it drove him nuts because he was the tidy one. We've completely reversed roles...I can't stand a mess (it makes me anxious and I start to feel claustrophobic...so cleanliness is more of a necessity than a desire) and he leaves crap piled up everywhere.

If you have sets of chipaboard stickers you don't reach for often, that might work as well.

I dislike that I don't have a craft space. I keep my stuff in the unfinished basement and some in my closet. I have to use the dining room which is also where we eat so I have to clean up everything. I'd love to be able to scrap for just a little while, leave it and come back to it. I must really love scrapping because it's a pain in the butt to get everything out and then put it back in the basement/closet.

I like that I have a room with a decenty comfortable chair, TV and all my stuff. I hate the rest. the table is too big and doesn't have drawers (dining table), the furniture is a mosh mosh of pieces that don't match, it's carpeted, needs to be painted and because the table is so deep I can't go vertical in storage.
Next month, I'll be swapping out some of the storage pieces for kallax book cases. Then I need to figure out the desk/workspace situation. I'll manage that in the fall when I have some time off of work.

I love that I have a scrap room/office all of my own. For years I had no designated space--years of grading papers on the end of the dining room table.
LIKES:
My room has lots of storage space and storage solutions that fit my crafting style. Had it renovated a few years ago by a kitchen cabinet firm and they did a great job. I have room to display my albums, deep drawers for 12x12 papers and cs, shelves--both open and behind doors--for all the odds and ends.
I like that I have two kitchen counter height work surfaces. I prefer to stand while I scrap. I have a separate little cart for diecutting and embossing and all the dies & folders. And a designated spot for my Cricut. So I never have to take the time to pull out these larger tools before I use them.
My room is small, but that means that I am never more than a step away from the tools and/or supplies I need.
A few DISLIKES:
My room is too close to the living room and dh's TV is right next to the separating wall, so often the noise from that bothers me.
The lighting is OK. I have a casement window and ott lights on my counters, but track lighting would be something I might add if I were going to reno again--which I am NOT!
While a little clutter doesn't bother me, the mess has now reached close to critical mass. Having a lot of storage space seems like a good thing, but when it is filled up with STUFF, it is getting difficult to find what I need. I think I need to go through everything and let go of some of the supplies I have kept "just in case"...

I love that everything is organized and in the proper area. I love that my six tiered Clip It Up olds a lot of embellishments. My furniture was all purchased for the scrap room. It is a six piece credenza and could be used in any office space. I love the colors and the big window that looks into NORAD.
I want a bigger room. The current room is a 12 x 12.

I love:
That I have my own space. It's big. I have room for five friends to scrap with me, or for my DD to be down there with me. I can have my most used things out all the time including my die cut machines, laptops, sewing machine, big paper cutters. Smart TV. Custom cabinetry and built in shelving. Great lighting throughout.
I don't love:
Not having much time to actually do anything down there when I have any mental energy. It's always a mess. It's not organized the way I want it to be.

I have a kitchenette in my bedroom that I turned into my scraproom_ I've edited a few things
What I love: It has a window Lots of cabinets Counter is perfect height because I stand when I scrap I have most of the storage because I have the most stuff, but I need to quit buying because I'm running out of room and parts are unorganized
What I don't love: Overhead lighting is terrible Sometimes I wish the space was all mine (shared with kids, although only one uses it and she doesn't take up much room). It just gets crowded when we're in there and I can't spread out which makes it a little harder to scrap but she's a good scrapping buddy My Cameo/computer is upstairs which makes inconvenient Don't have any privacy unless the fiancee is gone, but he does like me "crafting" which is great but I can get more in a flow when I'm alone
What I would love to do someday is paint the cabinets cream and put in a wood counter like we did in our kitchen. My future step dd made a great point that we have craft counters now so if they get a little messy its ok- can't argue with that!

I like that I have my own room which is a pretty good size. It's south facing so doesn't get a lot of sunshine (which is probably one of the things I like least about it) but it's cool in summer and warm in winter.
I have two desks - one for scrapping and one for my computer which also has my cameo and printer permanently set up. I love being able to print off my journaling while I'm working on pages and I love being able to listen to podcasts or music or movies while I work.
And I love that the bathroom is next door for easy cleaning of stamps or other messy things.
I wish I had better storage so I could keep all my albums in my room and the whole space looking neater - I really dislike the loose stuff I have stored under my computer desk which just look untidy to me.

I took a year off from my room to redo it because it was such a hot mess. I love I got rid of the furniture. I love I have rolling carts in my room now. I love the way I placed my desk. I don't feel so boxed in. What I don't love is reorganizing all my items into new storage systems. The worst is my huge collection of paper ephemera and paper. It is taking forever. I would love another closet in my room. Luckily it is not a dumping ground. My cats and dog bring all their toys in my room so they can play while I create. When I stand up I am always stepping on a mouse or squeaky toy.

I love: That my space is in the family room so I can watch TV and talk to my family, I don't like to create in silence. That my space is in the basement which means I can scrap at 4:00 am and not disturb anyone. That I have lots of storage cubes that go vertical that are heavy enough to hold all my paper vertically. That my small space forces me to not over buy. That my table is right next to the computer and printer. That I finally have great overhead lighting and a fair amount of natural light thanks to large basement windows.
I hate: That my space is in the family room which means being squished into a small corner that keeps seeming to get smaller as DH work space keeps getting larger. That I only have a kitchenette sized table to work on and a folding table to spread my layouts or cameo on. That I can't have my Cameo out and ready all the time, I would use it more. That I have to work in the basement, I feel claustrophobic. That I have to stand at my chest freezer in the utility room to do all stamping and painting. That I have carpet while the rest of the house is hardwood. That I have to constantly move DH computer stuff off my folding table just to work. That I have to clean up my space whenever we get company because the family room is also the guest bedroom.

This is a great thread!
I love:
That I even have a space to create that is all my own. My scrap area is in my bedroom. I have a door to close!
I have a desk and chair. It was such a struggle to scrap when I was leaning on my bed or trying to work on the floor.
I have a BH&G 8 cube storage unit for my albums. Though, it's nearly full since I moved all my albums from the storage attic area to my room. But I'll figure it out when it happens.
I have enough room to hold all my scrapbooking things in one room.
Cons to my room:
It's a small bedroom. Smallest one in the house. I chose a bookshelf over having a clothing dresser. I have to chose everything I bring in very carefully because there is no where to put things.
The lighting is original to the house. There is one single light fixture on the far wall from my scrapbook desk. But it was the only wall that the bed (twin size) would fit, so it is where it had to be. I should get an Ott light, but I haven't decided to dedicate money to that right now.

I wish I had enough bookcases to keep all my albums in my room. I can never find the one I'm looking for. I do love being next door to the kitchen. I get a lot done during meal preparation.
