I'm am trying to buy a new dishwasher. (and can I just say I'm finding it very discouraging to find any brand at all that is reliable. Ugh. )
I can't afford to replace all the large kitchen appliances at the same time. My dishwasher needs to be replaced first, followed by the microwave. I have a max $800 budget for the dishwasher.
I'm really having a hard time deciding on a make and model, plus I'm thinking that most people have all the appliances of the same brand. Am I correct in this? So if I buy an LG dishwasher, I'm committing myself to the same brand for all the other appliances? Is this what you did? If you were buying a house that included the appliances would you expect them to all match?
I hate appliance shopping. Please share your thoughts.

We replaced all of our kitchen appliances at the same time when we did a remodel. We do not have the same brand of appliances, and that is not a problem whatsoever, in any way.
We we have a Samsung refrigerator, a Kitchen Aid dishwasher, and Electrolux range and microwave. The only reason we chose the same brand microwave/range is because we got a rebate from the manufacturer for buying more than one appliance. It was worth our while, and the microwave was something I honestly didn't care all that much about. I would have been happy with any. We didn't go with all the same brand because we did research and went with the ones that we thought were the best to fit our needs, wants, and budget. We reviewed ratings pretty extensively, too. For the most part, we've been happy. I'm not entirely thrilled with the quality of the baskets in our dishwasher, but it seems to clean just fine and it's quiet. So no real complaints.

No. Our dishwasher, which I am very happy with, and microwave are Kenmore. The stove is GE. The refrigerator is Samsung. As long as they are all the same color the brand is whatever is best for that appliance. Thinking about it, I don't know anybody who has ever mentioned matching brands being a consideration.

I don't have one brand for all my kitchen appliances. I have a Maytag oven, GE microwave, Kenmore Elite dishwasher and Kenmore fridge. I've been happy with all of them except the dishwasher.

Dishwasher is a Miele.
Range is a Wolf.

Before I got this dishwasher, we had a cheap Kenmore model that had actually rated [HASH]1 in Consumer Reports when we bought it. That was an awesome dishwasher. I still miss it. My parents have the same one and it is still going strong. My more expensive model is a pain. We've had to replace the mechanisms that support the top basket (twice) and the silverware basket is flimsy. The grid pieces that separate the silverware keep falling into the basket. I have to fix those grids to the basket with cable ties to keep them from falling. It's fine now, but I hold a grudge.

We have Whirlpool Gold and KitchenAid appliances. I don't think they all have to be the same brand. I think most people choose what they think fits best for their needs.

How interesting to hear that so many have multiple brands! I've never lived in a house where the appliances were not all the same brand. I'm guessing it's because the builders and/or previous owners bought the appliances all at once and may have received a multiple purchase discount. Well. This info certainly changes my thought process on buying a dishwasher. This is an older home and the appliances came with it. They are Frigidaire and I hate them, so I'll soon have a mismatched set anyway. Thanks for the input!

So those of you who have different brand name stainless steel appliances, does the SS match? Aren't these somewhat different finishes of SS? As in no finger prints vs the "you're gonna hate the finger prints" finish?

I've never considered having matching brands. My dishwasher, stove, and microwave are all the same, Fridgedaire. My house was new construction when I bought it, and I assume the builder got a better deal by buying the same (cheap) brand. I hate them, but I especially hate my dishwasher. It's only 2 years old, but it is at the top of my list to replace as soon as I can justify it in my budget.
As for the appliances I bought myself, the fridge is LG and the washer and dryer are Samsung. They match because they are gray-blue and I would never be able to match the color in another brand. The color makes me happy and makes laundry more fun.
When I replace the dishwasher, the most important factor to me is decibel level. My current dishwasher is the loudest appliance I have ever owned. My living areas are very very open, and the dishwasher is maybe three feet from the end of my couch, so I absolutely can't run it when I'm watching TV, when I have company over, when DS and I are having dinner together, any time I don't want extremely loud background noise going on. Luckily it has a delay start option, but it still irritates me that I can't just wash dishes when it's convenient for me.

Samsung- fridge (French doors over freezer drawer) GE- stove Brean Allure- stove hood (DH found it on Amazon) Samsung- dishwasher Nespresso Citiz- espresso/lattė genius Kenmore- traditional washer/dryer (16 years old)
no microwave
Obviously we have no issues with mix and match (though I admit to being matchy matchy.)
Everything was was purchased with cost in mind, no splurges, save the Nespresso. All appliances work well and no complaints.

Dishwasher - Bosch - stainless steel front Microwave (newest in house) - GE - in Slate Stove - not sure - came with house 20+ years ago - black Fridge - Kenmore - white
None of ours match, never was a concern of ours - the microwave and stove used to until the microwave died earlier this summer. We do want to get the stove that matches the microwave - but have other expenses first.

I think the earlier SS models had different finishes, but the newer ones seem to all have gone with the no fingerprints style of finish. Honestly, unless you have your fridge next to your ovens (not a good idea anyway) you wouldn't notice any minor differences in shade. The lighting in the kitchen will almost always throw a different shade of light on each appliance anyway and that changes their look, even if they're all the same brand. We have nothing that matches in terms of brands, and don't have a dishwasher because DH does all dishes - he hates dishwashers so agreed to doing dishes always. Works for me

Everything in my house is a Kenmore. Right down to the gas grill on the patio. Why? My kids bought them for me, and they thought that I would want them all the same! I must say, I've had no trouble with any of them.

All of mine are kitchen aid but not the counter top microwave. I got them two years ago when we remodeled the kitchen. I got a great deal by buying all the same so that is why they match. I have been very happy with them except the control panel when out on the dishwasher within ten months and it took a few weeks to get the part but it cleans great

As in no finger prints vs the "you're gonna hate the finger prints" finish? I have a Bosch dishwasher, Kitchen Aid range and Whirlpool fridge and a small kitchen. I picked them out online because I got them wholesale so I had to pray the stars aligned on the colors being close. There is so little color variation in the 3 that you would really have to study them to notice. And they all resist fingerprints fabulously.

My appliances are all 13 years old, and at the time I bought the best I could afford after lots of research. I also bought them all online, which was quite daring back thenI have a Bosch dishwasher, a Britannia range cooker, a Liebherr fridge and a Samsung microwave. My washing machine is Whirlpool and it's newer, as we simply moved it to a cupboard when I did the kitchen, and it didn't matter that it wasn't shiny and new. The freezer was Bosch but I threw it out after this year's Great Power Off Return From Three Weeks' Holiday Disaster.

The only time we ever had matching brands was in our first house, when the builder included appliances. Cheap, bottom of the line appliances.
We have replaced them all, and each are different brands.
Dishwasher is Bosch and I hate it. I kiss my silverware tray being on the door, and the racks in this one are laid out funny.
Oven is duel fuel Electrolux, with a second oven (that I insisted on and now never ever use) love my gas stovetop though!
Fridge is GE Profile, French doors on top freezer on the bottom. Not a fan of this one either....the shelves inside dont allow for tall things, so they go on the doors.

All appliances don't have to be the same brand. We have two Dishwashers, both Miele. One is almost 22 years old and still cleans dishes perfectly. The other was purchased in 2006 and works just as well. Both are whisper quiet, you have to stand right next to them to hear them, energy efficient, and because they last so long, worth the extra they cost. In 22 years, that DW has been repaired twice, once by me when a cherry pip got stuck it one of the pipes. A Miele tech support person walked me through it on the phone. And about 10 years ago, way out of warranty, they sent someone over because the machine wouldn't power up. No charge. It wasn't properly plugged in
