I love scrapbooking, but I haven't done any for the last couple of years, as all my stuff has been in storage. Project Life was pretty new back then, and though I found PL interesting, I never started. So, I don't scrap with PL products, but I still have to wonder about something. And I don't mean to be rude by asking. Why do you need the special page protectors for the cards? Why not just glue your photos and cards to a 12x12 cardstock in a grid pattern? Then, you wouldn't have to have the "right" page protector for your layout, and you wouldn't have to stress about how to make the backside of the page protector "work." And I bet standard 12x12 page protectors would be less expensive than the divided ones. I like the grid and card aspect of PL, and I can see where it could be really helpful in terms of planning a layout, telling a story, making it fast and easy. My question is only about the page protectors. Sliding cards into a slot versus popping some glue dots on the back. Do you really find that the divided page protectors make it that much easier for you? Do you like the dividers because you don't have to think about the layout? Or do you find the dividers limiting, demanding just as much or more planning than traditional scrapbooking? Is it a look that you love? What makes you buy more and more of them? Thanks in advance

Yes, 12x12 can be less expensive. It depends on the person, but some people really have to think about the PL layout. No, the dividers aren't limiting. Yes, it's the look and ease of PL that I love. I buy more because I have an illness where I can only sit and s/b for short periods of time. I accomplish more in shorter periods of time. I also love the neater, cleaner look of PL. I don't have to be obsessed with lining everything up correctly.

I agree with Abby~Bear's Mom. When scrapping 12x12 I stress out wanting to make it perfect etc. With the PL style, I can just slip in my pics and what ever cards I'm using and come back and embellish later if I want. I get more done with scrapping PL style for everything then 12x12. I do still throw a 12x12 in once in a while, but it isn't often anymore

I truly think it can be done either way, make it work for you. For me, I love the divided page protectors. I try to keep my PL album simple and I don't even need adhesive with the divided page protectors. I also like the look of the divisions. It also gives a little more flexibility in terms of being able to shift things around.

I find it much easier to scrap the PL way. I'm catching up on old photos. I work in 3 steps. 1. Add photos 2. Add filler & journalling cards 3. Journal & embellish I usually don't have a long time to scrap & don't have a dedicated scrap place, so this works for me. Plus I can be as creative as I have the time or desire to be!

I think there are probably a good number of people who do exactly what you're proposing (using 12x12 as a background and simply applying the grid style to the layout). Personally I enjoy the pockets. Yes, they can be limiting at times, but I can usually find a fairly easy solution (resize photos etc). I like finishing off each pocket as I'm working and I like how the pages look when I'm done. Like so many things with scrapbooking, it's really about personal preference.

You should do what appeals to you most! This is my second year of PL and I probably do everything in an unconventional manner. I only do monthly (due to time) and I will often throw in 12x12 layouts in between that focus on something special- so some months have more pages than other months. Try a couple of things and see how they work for you. And just as everyone else has said- the special PL pages just make it easier to drop in photos etc.

Or do you find the dividers limiting, demanding just as much or more planning than traditional scrapbooking? Is it a look that you love? What makes you buy more and more of them? Good question. I had the same one when I first started thinking of doing PL. I gave it a try and didn't like the results. The reason was my page protector wasn't a full 12" x 12". So, I ended up spending a lot of time trying to trim photos and make them fit on my 11-3/4 x 11-5/8 or so pages. I didn't like the time spent on doing that. So, the answer for me was that I use pocket pages for the speed (which was the appeal of doing pocket pages for me). That being said, I am once again trying to make the pages fit the 12" x 12" page protectors again. I include those inserts in my albums and on the back side of them, I ended up just using the grid design and I am getting better at making it work. So, I do plan to try to use this approach once I run out of the pocket pages (at least the 12" x 12" size). I still plan to use the alternative sizes (e.g. 6x8).

Another tip: are you scrapping for creativity or to preserve memories? If you're scrapping to preserve memories, I feel PL is the way to go. If you're scrapping for creativity-regular or PL is the way to go. A PL page can be embellished-taking as much time and thought as a 12x12 page. I also like the small size I can embellish-if I want to embellish. Plus, on PL, it tends to break the rules of scrapping. It can be inconsistently laid out or visa versa. This lets me use embellishments that may not match. But, I don't care if the process is enjoyable.

I keep saying I will try to use up my 12x12 things so that I don't waste any of it. But I still have just used the other divided ones. I like the ease of just slipping in rather then gluing and trying to get things perfectly straight.
