I think I skipped a day in girl school because the hair and makeup thing sometimes baffles me. I swear, I am the biggest zero when it comes this kind of thing. So today's question is one about hair. As I get older, my hair texture has gone from thick and curly to thinner and frizzy. Think Hermione Granger frizzy. So what do I do about this?? I bought some Frizz-Eaze (spelling?) leave in conditioner, but now I am not sure what to do with it. Do I wash and condition my hair as usual then use the leave in condition? Do I skip the conditioner in the shower? Is there something else I should be doing? I get that I live in the humidity capital of the world, but my hair used to curl in the humidity. Now I look like Rosanne Rossana-Danna. Y'all need to help a clueless sister out. Please. I'm begging here.

Yes. Wash and condition as normal. Put small amount the leave in condition in started from about 3 inches from your foot to the ends. Don't use it every day, it can make your hair kind of limp. I feel Like serums work better against frizz. There are plenty of good ones and those you can do every time you wash also applying about 3 inches from the roof. Moroccan Oil, Silk Therapy, Paul Mitchell, and Ouai are some of my favorites.

I wish I could help but I missed that day in girl school too and I have the exact opposite problem. My hair used to be thick and normal but now that I'm older it's thinner, the gray is wiry and it all goes flat and greasy by the end of the day. Definitely not a good look either.

Diva Curl shampoo and conditioner really eliminated my frizz. Also no brushing ever or drying with a regular towel. Found tee shirts or microfiber towels helped tremendously.

I have curly hair. When I don't want to flat iron it straight, I wash and condition my hair under cold water. That helps keep the frizz away and my curls look good.

Costco sells Olaplex 3 $20 for a modest little bottle. I have natural hair without color treatment, my last keratin treatment was many months ago so it's gone, but I do some heat styling and the Olaplex makes my hair smooth and manageable like nothing else. Highly recommend to combat frizz.

No help at all, my hair looks like straw stuck to my head in humidity. But I so love what autocorrect did to your post.

I use a leave-in oil product in my hair. It's by Joico and it works well at taming the frizz. My hair is thick and curly now unless I tame it down. I don't know where all this hair came from as it wasn't there before. When I straighten it, I barely have a ponytail but curly it's thick. The oil works well. It takes away static, too.

Another curly head here, and I live in FL with extreme humidity, but I keep my curls tame and healthy. I wash, condition and then ONLY use a quarter-size of coconut oil. I blow it out and sometimes curl it a bit with a curling iron. Even in the humidity and rain, my hair stays like this. It's super-healthy and grows very quickly. I highly suggest trying it, but I do know that everyone's curls are different. DD29 began adhering to the Curly Girl method (her curls are TIGHT and sometimes frizzy). She co-washes and conditions and her hair has gotten really healthy--no products needed.

I use hair oil to control the frizzies and Frizz Ease 3 day straight spray when I want it sleek. Other days I leave my hair to dry on it's own and use the oil and Frizz Ease air dry waves mousse.

My curly-haired daughter has tried a variety of hair oils and they all seem to work about the same - that is, they all work well. So don't spend a ton of money on an expensive one. She doesn't use a regular towel on her hair, but applies a small amount of oil and "plops" it in an old t-shirt to get a lot of the water out, then lets it air dry. We live in Houston, so we know humid, and this has completely controlled her frizz. How to "plop" your hair.I'm pretty sure she's using this oil.

A good tip a friend told me I had never thought of is: don't style or even comb your hair in the bathroom after you've showered. Too much humidity is left in the room from the shower. The gals on the forums of naturallycurly.com have all kinds of tricks they share.

I'm in the same boat. My hair has always been terribly frizzy. Yesterday I was out all day; it looked great when I left the house by the time I got home I gasped when I looked in the mirror. I couldn't believe I was walking around with my hair so big.
I am going to a new stylist on Friday so I am hoping a fresh cut by some new to me hands will help. I usually flat iron but I really want to embrace my natural hair again.

That John Frieda stuff is brutal on hair. The Curly Girl method can really help with frizz. Stop washing with shampoo and conditioner that contains sulphates and silicon. Much better off washing with just conditioner or a low-sudsing shampoo. Condition well, and leave most of it in. Lock in the moisture by the "squish to condish" method Squish to Condish explained. Follow that up with a curl enhancing cream and maybe a gel. You hair should last up to 5 or 6 days without needing to be rewashed (depending on your activity and sweatiness). Your curls will be much less frizzy and much more healthy.

I am going to be camping and would love to get the frizz thing figured out because my hair goes crazy when camping. I do use a co-wash followed with conditioner about every 2 -3 days and I let it air dry a bit and then blow dry. My hair has gotten a ton better but is still frizzy and when I am camping it will be wild!

I have found that as I get older, my hair has gotten much more wavy/curly. I switched to using the Devacurl No-Poo and One Condition products (bought on Amazon) and have found that the less I wash my hair, the less it needs washing. I used to wash, blow dry, and hot iron my hair every single day for work. Sometimes I switched it up by using hot curlers instead. Talk about abuse to your hair! Now that I am home all the time, I stopped the over washing and stopped blow drying completely. I find I can go up to 5 days at a time without my hair looking oily or smelling funky. And with letting it dry on its own to remain curly, I find I don't get frizz any longer either. It must be a combination of the products I'm using and no longer forcing it straight, but I really think just giving in to the curls has been the bigger reason the frizz has disappeared. In addition to switching washing products, I also use a Devacurl leave-in conditioner or Moroccan oil, or something to give it that extra moisture it seems to want. I also added a special microfiber towel that I purchased with the Devacurl products. I leave it in that for about half an hour to an hour and it really allows the curls to come alive. There was one night that I washed it late and piled it into the microfiber, then promptly lay down to watch some Netflix and woke up in the morning with my hair still in the microfiber towel. I have to say, it was the nicest it has ever been - full, curly, and seemed extra shiny and nice.

I hear you, only I have thick frizzy hair--and it's party gray, and seemingly nothing helps. I've tried conditioners, serums, hair spray, mousse, oil treatments, etc. It doesn't matter. My hair is its own entity and does as it pleases. I'm just around for the ride.

I've been using products by Curl Keeper Solutions for the past few years and I love them! I used to have stick straight hair that is thin per strand, but there is so much of it on my head that it is very thick in volume. Once I hit menopause my hair turned wavy and frizzy. I went through many products trying to find "the one" and finally landed on this brand. I even tried the Deva line, but it didn't work too well for me. You can read about them on their website at www.frizzoff.com. The ones I use are Silk Shampoo (because my hair is really dry), Pure Silk Protein Conditioner (again because my hair is really dry) and for styling (Curl Keeper Original). I wash and condition as usual, then after rinsing out my hair I apply the Curl Keeper while still in the shower. I hang my head upside down and pour about a palm full in my hand-depends on how long your hair is. I rake that through my hair until it is gone. By now your hair should be still wet. If it's really humid out I'll use another hand full. Next with my head still hanging down I'll step out of the shower and grab the long sleeved really soft old tee shirt I've placed nearby. I put that on the floor (for me it's easiest to do this on the floor-the plopping method rather than on a chair) upside down with the neck of the shirt facing me. I'll kneel down and place my hair in the middle folding down the curls accordion style. I'll then pull up the bottom of the shirt over my head, and next take both arms and cross them over and tie them in a knot to secure the shirt on my head. The knot will be in the front of my head. If this doesn't make sense you can look up "plopping method" online. The t-shirt really helps to cut down on the frizz vs. a towel. I keep my hair up in this while I dress. Most curly girls will then take down their hair, shake it out and let their curls dry just like that. Mine never looks neat enough for that, and since I'm a wavy girl (and a perfectionist) I comb mine out and the waves start to form. The Curl Keeper cuts down on the frizz enormously. It dries soft and natural unless you've used too much and then you just scrunch it out. What I love about it is you can reactivate it the next morning (neaten it up) by just using a bit of water. I wash my hair about every 5-6 days because it is so dry. I can order the Curl Keeper and Shampoo from Amazon, but the Conditioner I still have to order from the website because it's no longer available on Amazon. I threw away my hair dryer once my hair changed to curly. I only let my hair dry naturally and I've heard the most important thing you can do to keep it healthy is to not use heat on it. I have to color it (too much gray) and that's bad enough. I wash my hair in the evenings and it dries enough by bedtime.
