I went to this and I feel like a total failure. These events are suppose to be fun. I struggle to keep up and total cracked. This was nothing but fun for me. I was so overwhelmed with getting all the pieces popped out in time w/o ripping the paper. Then I had to ink all the pieces by that time they were strewn all over the table because of rushing. I couldn't find the pieces I need. I couldn't cope with the chaos . With all this stress my blood sugar started to drop and I had to drink a protein shake. I finally quit and went to a near by store to get 2 gallon bags to put all the pieces together. I think getting 5-6 hrs of sleep each night the preceding this past Saturday and being hormonal it didn't help. I'm scared this is going to happen again as I'm signed up for the 3 day private reserve weekend in September for a 5 day vacation. I think I've developed a real pysch disorder. I hope to get the kits ahead of time to prep and organize so I can enjoy my self. Has anyone gone through this? I only managed to get 1 mainly finished project done. I really look forward to this but I'm just disappoint with myself.

Oh, I'm very sorry. I know when I went to Creative Escape twice the classes were at a SUPER STRESSFUL, FAST pace. If you can sit next to someone and "buddy up" next time, maybe y'all can help each other by working in tandem. Try to sit near the front if possible and can you snap photos with your phone of the instruction screen if you see yourself getting off pace?

I agree that you might look for a buddy. Also, are instructions included to take home? That way the pressure is not there to complete the projects before you leave. You can finish at your leisure in your hotel room or at home.

There were people around who I asked occasionally but I didn't want to disturb them too much. They needed to be free to work on there projects. I didn't want to be a pest. There are good instructions thank goodness. I have a hard time not to compare myself with those who are able to keep up. 😔

Please don't be too hard on yourself. I've been to classes where you were not expected to finish. They included good instructions so you could finish at home. Perhaps you could write to Quick Quotes and let them know about the class pace. Maybe they have some suggestions. Or mention it to the instructors at the next event. They might be able to give you some tips with their particular class.

You aren't alone. This has happened to me occasionally when I've taken classes. As far as the buddy system goes I usually went with a friend and often both of us were behind.! I ended up finishing the projects at home and sometimes even changing them up a bit if I couldn't quite remember what the instructor demo'd. I agree with Scrapperal--let the company know. The company may not realize they're pacing the class to fast. If they aren't including written instructions and pictures you could suggest those as well.

I have taking the classes on some of these Saturday events. And yes, sometimes they "fly through" the instructions and you can easily get lost. Just remember to have fun. It always helps to work at your pace and just put it away and finish it at home. Take some close ups of the layout details to go along with the instruction photos. There really is no way to enjoy yourself and manage to get the 12-14 pages and special project done and shop a little in the 6 or so hours.
When I go, it's usually with a friend, sometimes she finishes more or I do. Sometime we jus t chat or not really do much or the layout except the more complicated element. Then we get together after at a crop or finish up later.
Remember to have fun!

Sorry you had a hard time. Maybe going to a few crops where you could work at your own pace and practice before the retreat?

I do not take classes so I'm not much help. I love Quick Quotes kits so I would definitely just do my own thing and let the class go on around me. Maybe just sit and listen and watch and put things together later.
In every class there are people who aren't fast paced. Maybe you can let the instructor know at the front end or see if you can team up with others who don't work quickly and you can all sit together and support each other.
The last class I took was with Lisa Bearnson and it was with foam stamps and paint - it was a total mess because we had to pass the supplies around to share and by the time I got a foam stamp it was caked with paint - there was nothing available to wipe anything off - what a mess. I just wanted to meet her and see what she was about so I didn't even bother with that mess of a project after I got a hand full of paint. Took everything with me and never did put it together.
But Quick Quotes - I bought the only page kit I ever recall buying from them at a recent Expo. Really nice stuff from them. My friend is in their kit club and she gets amazing layouts thankfully because she learns nothing from putting them together about design. On her own her layouts look like her brain is on backwards.

Aw, bummer. I would just do what I could without stressing out about it.
You can't be the only person who could not keep up.

I'm sorry I used to go to a lot of conventions and took a lot of classes. I stopped trying to finish my projects and learned to just relax, enjoy and do what I could. Once I changed my expectations I enjoyed the classes much more!

I have been frustrated with classes like that where I felt like a fish out of water. I have given up on classes and events that focus on step by step instructions for creating a specific project: much prefer classes that teach techniques and crops that provide time and space to do my own thing. I like pennyscraps's idea of snapping photos of the stages with your phone.

There are good instructions thank goodness. I have a hard time not to compare myself with those who are able to keep up. 😔 honestly, the couple times I've taken classes (not a weekend-long thing, but classes at CKC) I gave up at trying to keep up and get the entire project completed. I did what I could to follow along, and wrote myself notes on the instructions to help me finish it up when I got home. It's no fun at all if you're super-stressed about it. (once or twice, I also decided to just 'do my own thing' with the materials, and didn't follow along at all, lol! I just made my own project with the materials after I got home.) If you were having a tough time keeping up to the point where it wasn't fun and it was super-stressful, other people probably were, too. Would there be anything wrong with speaking up and asking the instructor to slow down, or go over something again if you didn't catch the info? I'm fairly certain there were lots of other people in the class having the same issue as you, and were probably wishing someone would say something to the instructor!

I have gone to several Quick Quotes Private Reserves and Mini Reserves and you are right, they are VERY fast paced! I love them though and have two tricks. Use the evening crop time to prep for the next day: punch out punchies, ink pages/diecuts, etc. Oh, and 2 gallon zip locks are your best friend! As you prep, put everything for a page into a bag to keep it all together and to keep your sanity. I can pretty much keep up with the classes/pages but I don't stress if I can't. Their instructions are always well written so if they are moving on but I'm not done, I just chuck everything in to a ziplock to finish at home and start fresh with the next page. This is suppose to be fun; don't stress too much on getting things done! I'm heading to the Private Reserve this coming weekend. 'Can't wait!!

I completely agree with crimsoncat05....I am a slow scrapper so I have never kept up in these classes, but I love to watch, take notes and play later!! hugs! Sorry it felt stressful for you!

This happens to many people, myself included.
The last time I took a class at convention was a Heartfelt Creations class. Everything seemed lightning speed, and I have been stamping for 30 years!
The advantage to taking the class is that you get some additional tips and instructions as well as the written ones, or at least the written instructions will make more sense if you are able to hear and see what happens in class, then finish on your own later.
I am a slow crafter. I am very capable, but I do not enjoy the pressure to finish at breakneck speed.
Don't feel disappointed in yourself. A lot of convention classes are like that for many people.
