I was diagnosed at 19 more than 25 years ago. For me it's all about keeping close tabs on how I feel and getting to the doctor if I think my levels are cratering

I am not familiar with that but I didn't want to read and run. Is it something to do with Thyroid?

Yes, there is a lot to know. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune condition. You body is creating antibodies which are attacking and destroying your thyroid. Your thyroid is like a gas pedal, it controls your energy level and it effects every cell in your body. May I suggest the book I will link below, I have read it twice cover to cover. Hashimoto's Lifestyle InterventionsAlso, the website Stopthethyroidmadness.com is a wonderful resource. A couple of things, if you don't fit onto the category where you take some thyroid replacement hormone like Synthroid (95% of doctors prescribe this only) and are fine, most doctors have no idea on how to treat you. This means you need to learn as much as you can and be your own advocate. I personally have found endocrinologists the supposed experts to be the worst at treatment options. Also, the protocol for treatment differs from person to person. What works best for me may not be what is best for you. To a great extent it is trial and error. If you have specific questions that you would prefer to ask privately, please feel free to pea mail me,

Does going gluten free help at all? For me it is very important to be gluten free. I am hoping that it reduces my antibodies. My old doctor did not do a full thyroid panel and test antibodies at least once a year. I just changed doctors this year so now I have a baseline. There is research out there that suggests that one of the things you can do as a lifestyle intervention is to abstain from gluten. It has been a game changer for me. I also have sensitivities to chemicals and colorings. I eat a clean diet as much organic or local sourced vegetables, fruit and meat.

Can I ask what convinced your doctor to disgnose you? I am asking because I have yet another appt tomorrow with mine. I presented with lots of the symptoms for an under-active thryoid - he ordered TSH is was normal but pushing the limit at 3.96. Since I had all the symptoms he ordered a full panel - TSH dropped to 2.63, normal t3, t4, low b12, low vit d, elevated WBC and high thryoid anti-bodies. From my understanding one should not have ant-bodies! I am at a lost as where to go from here to get any help. My research says Hashimotos but also that drs won't treat with my results.

I was diagnosed a few years ago because of a goiter on my thyroid. It is approximately 6 times the size of the normal thyroid. I've had no other symptoms and have my blood checked every 6 months. So far I've been within normal range.

Does going gluten free help at all? I've been researching this a bit because I'm hypothyroid (controlled with 25mcg Synthroid) and I feel so much better when I'm off wheat. Indescribably better. It certainly won't cure you, but, at least for, it helps with symptoms.

I had pain in my neck where my thyroid is had a ultra sound done results came back that I had a 2.7 x 1.6 nodule and some smaller ones. My blood work was normal. I need to go get a biopsy done for the large nodule.

I have it, and am on 175mcg daily synthroid. I lost a considerable amount of weight not related to the hashimotos dx, and that loss hasn't contributed to any change in the way I live my life.
Mine is related to post-partum hyper-thyroiditis. My doctor tells me that my thyroid does not function. It's dead, dead.
First thing I'm hitting in the zombie apocalypse is the pharmacy for my synthroid.
