Every time I add catnip to my cats' cat trees or their scratching posts they try to eat it. Are they supposed to? Is it good/bad for them? They go out of their way to lick up as much of it as possible. So I really limit how much I use. But darn they love the stuff and come running when I open the bag. Should I be trying to place it where they can't get at it? I'm using the dry powdery stuff that looks like dried herbs, if it matters.

Mine generally just roll around and get high. Try getting one of those re-stuffable Kong mice so the catnip lasts longer without making a big mess. They can eat it but I don't let them eat a lot of it. I usually just buy pre-stuffed mice and things and throw them away when they look gross or spring a leak, I don't like the loose stuff because of the mess. They make a catnip spray too, but it doesn't seem to last very long. There are catnip bubbles my daughter had fun blowing into her cat's face, if you want some quick amusement

Yes, ours eat it, and then roll around in any leftovers. We don't give it to them very often.

Yep mine eats it and then gets cotton chops. He needs lots of water after.
