...an octogenarian in a Volvo, lol! She even had a yappy little white dog jumping around loose in the cabin. Here's what happened: I was merging (well, trying to) from the left lane into the right to exit off the local highway, had lots of time but there was a lot of traffic too so, I looked, put my signal on, looked again and prepared to merge There was this little old lady in the right lane (solid line of cars behind her or I would have slowed down to merge after her) and it would seem that she saw my signal and SPED UP! Seriously? My options were few - #1 stay in the left lane and miss my exit, #2 let her pass and probably miss my exit, or #3 pass her and merge. I opted for #3 because who wants to miss their exit? Not me. She started RACING ME! That bitch was NOT gonna let me in!!! And what have I done to deserve this? I'm just driving here! Though I love my Prius, it can be slightly challenged in the "get up and go" department, but I floored it anyway and managed the merge with both her headlights in my review mirror - i.e. with enough space, but I admit, probably just enough and I further admit, I can't possibly be 100% in the right here. I could have missed my exit but I really didn't want to. She winds up taking the exit behind me and after we exit onto the two lane road (me in the right, her taking two and ending up in the left), she passes me and I look over to see a gnarled old claw slowly rising up into the passenger side window giving me the bird as she casually edges past me. She could barely see above the wheel! Which only added to the comedic effect of her being so pissed off. Man...THAT made me laugh! HARD! I don't feel bad hoping she saw that. Then I found this song...if only she'd had a "Honk if you love Jesus" sticker...would have been PERfect!

Drivers that seriously piss me off are the ones that drive 55 in a 60. So I decide to pass then all the sudden they want to do 65. Dude, I'm going to pass you, if I have to do 89, I'm gonna do it to make it happen. fuck you.
You should have blown her a kiss. haha.

Love it! Great story! Have you ever noticed that it is the cars going really slow that also blow through yellow/red lights?

My husband wouldn't signal when changing lanes for years because of people like this. My favorite is when you are driving on a two lane highway and you to to pass someone who's been doing 5 under the speed limit for miles and they decide to race you.

You should have blown her a kiss. haha. If my merging in front of her was enough to set her off like that, I can only imagine the apoplectic rage she would have experienced if I'd done this.

I needed a laugh this morning. Thanks for providing it! My husband wouldn't signal when changing lanes for years because of people like this. It's pretty much a given on the roads here that you never warn people you are going to change lanes by using a blinker. They seem to view it as a challenge and refuse to let you merge. It's akin to waving a red flag in front of a bull.

But sorry she was rude to you. Some drivers, I wonder if she was late to Bingo.

Heck, I even use mine in the desert of eastern WA with no cars in sight. Habits die hard.....

Ugh. Everyone has to get where they are going. Being an ass to someone trying to accomplish that is mean. Let a car in. Slow down when someone begins to pass you on a 2 lane road. Just be a nice person. A massive bout of constipation to that old bat!

Your story cracked me up!!! I'm wondering if it's the car you drive or if she is always like that. I prefer not getting behind a Prius because as you said yourself, 'it can be slightly challenged in the "get up and go" department' I swear most people that drive them around here get in front of you and then drive UNDER the speed limit

LOL - your pictures in the post made the story! Thanks for the great laugh!! Drivers that seriously piss me off are the ones that drive 55 in a 60. So I decide to pass then all the sudden they want to do 65. Dude, I'm going to pass you, if I have to do 89, I'm gonna do it to make it happen. fuck you. Yes. It also pisses me off if they pass me and slow down. I have to pull out of a lane at a bottom of a hill. I can't always see oncoming traffic until I pull out and look in my rear view mirror to see them coming over the hill. I stick my foot right down in that V10 and go. But they always pull out to pass me. OK. I am currently doing 70 in a 55 and you are going to pass me. . ... keep going.. yes.... now we are doing 75... keep passing me... OK. Pull in, in front of me - but you better keep your foot in it too, because I now am going to ride your bumper all the way to town. I always back off eventually.. but dammit - it pisses me off. I love to see them watching me in their rear view when I am pushing up behind them. It also severely pisses me off when someone passes me, then immediately slows down to turn off the road. WTF! I generally drive 5 to 10 over, so it wasn't like I was poking along. If there is oncoming traffic, I pull right up on them and honk and give them the old lady finger too, while we wait for them to turn. LOL Damn. I think I need therapy.

Love it! Great story! Have you ever noticed that it is the cars going really slow that also blow through yellow/red lights? Yes, and then make you miss them! Years ago, we lived on a single lane road. It looked like someone's driveway, which is the only reason we could ever come up with that people would be so rude. The light would go green and we would go straight across to get the kids to school. For some reason, people coming from the other direction and turning left would always cut us off. If I managed to get through first, they would flip me off. No, they did not have a turn arrow. Yes, I had right of way because I was going straight and they were turning. I think because there was so little traffic from our road that they were used to just turning without thought of yielding to oncoming traffic.

Heck, I even use mine in the desert of eastern WA with no cars in sight. Habits die hard..... I'm one of the odd ones in that I really do use my blinkers most of the time. It's a habit born of necessity when we lived in Jo'burg. They were fanatical about the use of blinkers when we were there (is that still the case ScrapsontheRocks ?). They had no problem blowing their horns at you if you forgot to use one. Once I had a guy actually follow me into the parking garage at the shopping mall. When I got out he started yelling at me for not using my blinker...in a turn-only lane at the robot (red light) designed specifically for entering the mall parking lot! I looked at him like he'd lost his mind and walked away without saying a word to him. The whole time I was thinking he better never try that in Texas! It also severely pisses me off when someone passes me, then immediately slows down to turn off the road. What annoys me to no end is when I'm on the freeway here and need to merge right. With or without blinker on, they will just refuse to let you over. So as soon as I slow down a bit and merge in behind them, they immediately then move over to the lane I just left. Seriously? If you were going to move to the left anyway, why couldn't you just let someone over? This happens all the time.

I think because there was so little traffic from our road that they were used to just turning without thought of yielding to oncoming traffic. OMG! There is an intersection like that here. It is actually the driveway of two different strip malls that have their driveways facing each other. Most people coming out usually turn left or right, only a few go straight into the mall on the other side. One day I was one of those few that was going straight. When the light turned green, I had to actually wait while two cars made a left turn in front of me. The third car stopped at the last minute when he realized I was trying to go straight! They need to put up a sign that says left turn yields to oncoming traffic!

(She lives up in your neck of the woods and is a super-annoying and SMUG slow octogenarian driver.) She thinks she has a legal and moral right to drive as slow as she likes and block as many cars as it takes to do it. I've sent her documented proof she's not supposed to hold up traffic by going slower than the speed limit. She doesn't care. Say hi from me if you see her again. MizIndependent, great story.

Nowadays there is a split down the middle. Like people who are lovers of garlic or not, fans of a particular celeb vs haters and ne'er the twain shall meet, KWIM? I will stick my neck out and say a good proportion of newer drivers of all stripes over here (I am conscious of some of the discussions this week on the board where some peas have been circuitously accused of having racist tendencies so lest I be similarly judged, I wish to make this clear, I think it is a generational thing) have yet to make a proper acquaintance with that particular control stick thing, UGH.

Welllll, even though it's a funny story, especially cuz you have a gift with gifs, I'm relatively certain she was right in being miffed at you. She shouldn't have sped up to try to control other traffic, but you were in the wrong lane knowing you needed to exit long before you met up with her. Sounds like you took your chances driving in the left lane for longer than you should have.
