Hi everyone. I went to the Dollar Store to get some gift bags, and happened upon something called a "pre-moistened absorbent cloth" that is for cars. Since I've been wringing my hands over how expensive The Absorber is, I was quite pleased to find what I'm hoping is a good alternative for just $1.50! So. Am I right? Can I use this as a stamp shammy? I did find another shammy (also for cars) at the hardware store, but it just looks like a regular clothes, it isn't wet in the package....
The other thing I found was foam tape. It was in the hardware section as well, and is apparently for putting up frames and things, but I was wondering if I can use it on cards. Thoughts?
Thank you for your help!

midorica I just use an ordinary car shammy thing for my stamps. I would try the one you found out and see what you think. Perhaps it's not as good a quality as the Absorber, but it would be interesting to see how long it lasts. I don't bother about using acid free tape etc on cards as most people just throw them away so I would definitely use the foam tape. I guess the only issue is whether it's got a good adhesive or is going to peel straight off.

Since I haven't seen the Absorber or the lawn fawn shammy in real life, I can't tell what the texture is supposed to be like...

It just says synthetic chamois and 'polyvinyl alcohol cloth' - sort of slightly rubbery texture when it's wet. SaveSave

Since I haven't seen the Absorber or the lawn fawn shammy in real life, I can't tell what the texture is supposed to be like... When the Lawn Fawn one is dry it has an almost papery feel to it and is quite stiff compared to the ones you'd use to dry your car. Once it is wet it feels more like a traditional chamois.

Synthetic chamois (like the Absorber) will turn very hard and stiff if allowed to dry. Just put it under some water to soften it up. I often let my Absorber dry out between uses. It can get rather stinky if it's damp and sitting in a closed container.

We have "cooling cloths" we sell in our store. It comes premoistened so it can roll up into the container it comes with. Then after you take it out of the sealed package, it will dry hard.
Now I can't bring myself to take one and dirty it! They're so pretty and soft. And it really helps to wear it around the neck.

I just clean my stamps off with water. I don't like the idea of leaving chemical residue on them. Sometimes I have to use a bit of soap. My stamps are just fine.

Yes, that's why I want to try the stamp shammy. I like that the shammy apparently gets all the ink off, without leaving any lint behind. I'm still quite new to stamping, and I think I'm too hard on cleaning my stamps, so hopefully the water and shammy combo will get the job done without ruining my stamps.
