DD1 and i will be driving from San Antonio TX to Savannah GA this weekend. We'll leave early Sunday afternoon and will probably need to stop and sleep somewhere for the night. We need to arrive in Savannah by early afternoon probably so she can get her key and get her stuff moved into her apt for grad school.
Where's a good place to stop for dinner? Anything we need to know about driving through those areas? I've heard horror stories about certain areas where the police will stop an out-of-state car for no real reason and cause issues, but those may have been from several years ago. Any good places to stop for the night (or to avoid stopping for the night)?
I'm looking forward to driving through that area, b/c I've never been to TX, LA, MS, or AL before!
TIA!

If you are going to be driving through Atlanta, there is going to be a lot of stuff going on this weekend so traffic will probably be heavy. What route will you be taking.

You will want to eat before you get on 1-16. There is not much out through there with the exception of a couple of spots. There are a lot of places to eat in Macon right around where 1-16 begins so you should be able to find something there if it is near meal time. I haven't traveled west of i-16 in Georgia or Alabama. It you were going to be on I-20 I might could offer more help.

Yes nowhere to stop really between Macon and Savannah on I-16 there are a lot of places in Macon. There are tons of places to eat in Savannah.
I know that on I-16 in MetterGa and Bloomingdale Ga they love to pull people over for speeding. It's easy to speed on 16 because it's so boring. There is nothing but trees from Macon to Savannah. Longest 2 hours ever! Hope you guys have a safe drive. Is your DD going to SCAD? She will love Savannah. There are lots of things going on here all the time. Festivals and such. Will she live down town? If so I'd get a bike. Traffic is crazy and Savannah is bike friendly

If I were you, I would stop and spend the night and have dinner around Montgomery, AL. That is about 12 hours from San Antonio and the next day you would have about 6 more hours to drive from Montgomery to Savannah.
There are lots of places to eat (and hotels) in Montgomery. I am sure you won't want anything fancy since you will be tired from driving and need some rest.
Remember, it is Labor Day weekend, the police will be out on the highways looking for speeders so set your cruise control at the speed limit and you should be okay.
Make sure you take a bathroom break and have plenty of gas before you get on I-16 because there are not a lot of exits on I-16 and the ones with exits don't always have a gas station/fast food or anything.

Yes after Macon you will not want to stop again until Metter which is about 1/2 way between Macon and Sav most other exits the gas stations are not right off the exit. Metter is busy, well lit and has several FF places right off highway. After that you will not have much until you get to Pooler Ga. The airport exit in Pooler has everything.
