We need to by a new oven and it looks like many of the ovens now have a "steam cleaning" system instead of the super hot self cleaning mode I have had in the past. The reviews are terrible for the steam cleaning.
Curious if anyone here has a steam clean type oven and what your experience has been?

Also, for an extra $80 is a convection option worth it? I have never used a convection oven and my food seems to bake nicely.

The convection is worth it! The steam cleaning is just ok. The range oven I just got is fabulous is all ways- am awesome 5 burner with a grill/griddle, double oven convection and steam cleaning. It loosens and makes it easier to clean the ovens but it is "not all that and a bag of chips" as they say! But, at least I don't have to use any strong oven cleaners on it, The convection is awesome though.

It's okay. I just spray a bunch of water in there and it mostly burns to the bottom. It smells much better than a self cleaning oven though.

The convection is worth it. It's a feature I use all the time. So much so that both of my double ovens are convection. I don't have steam cleaning, but I do thank you for the reminder that I need to go and set my lower oven to clean. I've been forgetting to do it for the past several weeks.  |

We have an oven with both. We just got it in March and it is a KitchenAid. I have not used the steam clean yet, but today I used hot water to get stuff off the bottom that spilled and it cleaned up pretty easily. I wasn't sure how it would go because it says you can not use cleaner.
I do like the convection cooking.

I can't speak to the steam cleaning, but can to the convection option. My brother and I have the same oven except for one feature. His has the convection option, mine does not. The convection is worth it. When mine needs replacing, or if I get a whim to upgrade it, it's replacement will have the convection feature.
