But if my kids laugh really hard, they get the hiccups. I've always thought that was strange.

I wake up with hiccups a lot.

More like what doesn't. I get hiccups a lot, always have, even when I was small. Just take a sip of water the wrong way and they will start.

Having a bottle of soda and a bottle of water on my desk and sipping from both of them. I can drink water, or I can drink soda, I can't drink from both bottles in the same hour.

What doesn't trigger them? I get them at least once daily, sometimes more, and have since I was real little. Drives me crazy sometimes.

Laughing really, really hard or drinking carbonated fountain drinks from a straw.
Only way to get rid of them quickly for me is to hold my breath while taking 10 sips of water.

If I scarf down anything that is really starchy...bread, potatoes, triscuits. They are the hiccups that HURT too.

If I get up too fast in the morning or feel rushed out of bed. Odd I know. And when that happens, I get the hiccups either in the shower or brushing my teeth.

I always get hiccups on the last day of my period. It's happened for years. Weird.

If I laugh while laying down, I'll get hiccups for sure. And if I've had them once in a day I'm way more likely to get them several more times that day.

For me, it's fake smoke. The kind at haunted houses or special effects at a play. I'm not sure if it's dry ice or something else but that triggers a horrible bout of hiccups. My are so bad that I hurt from convulsing so hard.

Wow. My dh will be interested to know he's not the only one. Once he starts hiccoughing he can't stop for hours. Very exhausting. No more raw carrots for him. He finally made the connection and knows what to avoid, and thankfully, it's a very easy thing to avoid. My sympathies to all of you who hiccough for hours or days. The worst he ever had was many, many years ago - he ended up on prednisone after hiccoughing for 4 or 5 days straight. Talk about a form of torture!

Carrying heavy things and holding my breath. I'm frickin weird.
ETA: Pregnancy. Hiccups and sore boobs were my first signs with both boys. When I'm pregnant they last for a long time and I got then almost daily.

Raw carrots do it for me too. We call them "hiccup sticks".
