DD is entering high school. We want to get her a laptop but also don't want to spend a ton. Right now she has a Nook HD and an iPhone and mostly uses those except for school when she borrows my laptop. I'd rather she have her own as sometimes I need it at the same time and it's also getting old and the screen is getting loose (need to look into if that can be fixed).
She's not into gaming or anything that needs a ton of power or speed. They use Google drive for school. Can anyone recommend a lower priced laptop? I've thought about a Chromebook but you can get an inexpensive laptop for not much more so I'm thinking spending just a little more might be worth it. What do you think?

My DD got an ACER brand when she started HS and it has lasted her all through those 4 years (and still is in decent condition now.) Very inexpensive compared to other brands.

What about a Surface? My daughter who is in college uses this all the time. We purchased the keyboard with it. She can do anything on our desktop on her Surface. It's lightweight & easy to carry.

My daughter got an Acer as well when she went to college. It was a great little laptop and lasted the whole 4 years.

The HP Chromebooks are nice little laptops. They're thin and light, and come in cute colors too. I think you can get one for around $200.

I just got an Asus. It was $600 at Fry's so that may be out of your price range. I've looked at Chromebooks and they seem to small for me. I also thought about Surface 3 but it's pricey. Good luck deciding.

Best Buy often has Toshiba Satellites on sale for $279-$329. Inexpensive, but good. I've always bought some variation of a Toshiba Satellite and love them. They last.

My daughter is a senior. We want to buy her a nice laptop when she goes to college next year. Last winter her laptop died and we decided to go with an Acer Chromebook to get her through until college. I paid about $200 at Amazon for it. It has worked great for her. They use google drive at her school so she has been able to do schoolwork on it. It's worked very well for bridging the gap.

My DH and I each have a toshiba satellite and they've worked wonderfully, his for almost 6 yrs mine for almost 5. I recently replaced mine with a MacBook but will still keep it for the kids. It was under $400 too.

THIS ON SALE AT BEST BUY is what my freshman DS picked out. Not a bad price for touch, laptop that turns into tablet. It's screen turn 360 degrees and doesn't come apart like some, which I think may be good idea. One piece is enough. Because of the extra "frills" he pitched in, but at $349 not bad anyhow. He's had it a few days and so far LOVES it. When you flip to use as tablet, keyboard is automatically disabled. Hope it serves him well. Seems like technology is outdated the day after purchase....
