Theaters make a substantial portion of their money on concessions, so I would think it might not hurt them. And since it is much cheaper to watch movies from home, this might be the thing that puts butts back in theater seats.

We plan to join once we use up the rest of our DealFlicks money. Dealflicks is another way to see movies at a discount. We often pay about 5 or 6 dollars and sometimes that includes popcorn! Locally, the smaller theaters participate in Dealflicks. We've used Groupons to buy credit as well, bringing the price even lower. Once we found this, we started going to the movies much more often. Dh and I go together at least twice a month. He goes a bit more often on his own. With MoviePass, it will make it so we can go to AMC and the other bigger chains, which will open up even more choices.

Dh and I signed up on Monday. If we like it, we may sign the kids up too. They don't love going to the movies, but they're old enough now that they can go with friends, without parents. That makes it more fun and I could see them using it more under those circumstances. And really, they'd only have to use it once a month to pay for it.
I'm excited to get to see movies for free, by myself, while they're at school.

I can't find anyone who has signed up for this. Only $10 per month for unlimited movies (with some exceptions) Sounds like a money loser. But it's run by a former Netflix person who should know what he is doing. It says you only pay monthly--maybe a prepaid debit card with a small amount of money on it to start; could it be one of those monthly things that you cannot get out of? (no unsubscribe, etc??) But I'm interested. Not unlimited..... can only do 31 movies (max) per month!

Not unlimited..... can only do 31 movies (max) per month! Yes, one per calendar day. And you can't repeat movies. But seriously, who even wants to sit in a movie theater for more than 31 movies per month? Not me!! I am fortunate that we have a local theater in our small town that will give me my movie pass, small popcorn and a small drink for seven dollars. even so, I don't even go once a month on the average

Okay I caved. My bff and I both signed up. It says if your Theater does stickers you can purchase tickets through the app righ away. But when I hit the theaters tabs there's no list. When I select a movie from the list it says no available showtimes. ?!?!?!?

This article explains how the debit cards work, why theaters can't necessarily opt out, even though AMC tries to make it sound like they won't accept the cards, and how the company expects to make money. Also, I read elsewhere, they will collect and sell data based on your movie going habits. However, Netflix, Google, fb etc, all do that already. www.cnet.com/news/moviepass-ceo-mitch-lowe-interview-amc/I was going to get each of my kids a $50 theater gift card, but depending on how this plays our, I might just buy them 5 months worth of memberships instead. I would really see how often they want to go to the movies. I love the idea of movie pass, but lately it is often there is not a movie I would want to see. I love going to movies, I'm just not interested in what is playing. So I would much rather have the gift card that I will eventually use than the pass that I might not use for 3 or 4 months. Now if they are already going often I think it is a great deal.

We were planning to go see Victoria and Abdul tonight and the tickets are $11 so I figured I would give this a try (I go with my friends pretty often during the day too). I was able to purchase the pass and because we are going to Studio Movie Grill, it is supported as an E-ticket provider. I was able to book my tickets and select my seats right away and it gave me a confirmation code. It says I only need the app when I get to the theater, so we will see. At worst, then it will start when the cards get here and I pay for the movie tonight. At best, I just saved a few bucks and we can see other movies this month if we want. It looks like there are 3-4 chains that allow the app only without showing your card. The only one I was familiar with was Studio Movie Grill, but that's the one we prefer to go to anyway.
