Just wondering if there has been any updates on the iphone 8 release? I know lots of speculation... I am debating waiting until the 8 comes out, and either getting the 8 (which I heard will be a LOT more expensive than newly released iphones) or getting the 7, hoping that the price drops (but if the 8 is super expensive, I wonder if the 7 will become more popular)? I have a 5s, which I'd like to give to my middle school son, and I get the upgrade...

Just rumors. We only have a few weeks until it will most likely to be released!

I 'think' I read an article that suggested it would be released towards the end of September. My phone is on its last legs and I'm waiting to see if a new release will bring the price down on 6 or 7s.

My son wants to upgrade to the 7 so I'm hoping prices drop on them. His is a gophone so he would have to buy an unlocked phone or an at&t model.

i was reading an article with speculation on what some new features MIGHT be. they discussed possible facial recognition and no more home button (how would that work?). they also discussed a possible wrap around screen (around just over the edges). that's what i've heard.

I heard late September and yes, they have removed the home button and made it internal somehow.

My last phone (android) had a soft button for home instead of a regular home button. I had to use the on/off button to wake the screen.

Another thing that's rumored and not mentioned here yet is the expected price point is $1,000 which is new territory for a phone. I'm hoping that's incorrect as I'd like one ... but that's a lot of money.

I would switch my kids to android before I'd pay anything near that for a phone (for me too, but I already use android).

I am counting down as well. My phone is on it's last leg. I thought I read that the anniversary edition phone would be in the $1000 range but they would still have upgrades to other models??!! Don't quote me though because I may have completely misunderstood.

That's for the rumored "iPhone Pro" - analogous to the iPad Pro. *If* it's true that there's an iPhone Pro (or whatever it's called) with the higher price point and the more cutting edge features, there will also be a regular iPhone at a price point similar to what it has been. The Pro will be for the early adopters and those who live and die by their phone. The other one will be for "normal" users.

I am waiting as well. I actually went into the Apple Store two weeks ago, all set to buy the 7. When the salesperson came to help me, she reminded me that the new phone was coming out soon, and that it was the 10th anniversary... So they are expecting something pretty cool. She also stated that with the release of the 8, the price of the 7 would go down.
No way in hell am I paying $1,000 for a phone... I am interested in what the 8 will have, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up with the 7.

I'm not convinced the prices will come down. I've always bought a generation behind ~ bought the 4S when the 5S came out, bought the 5S when the 6S came out. I paid $99 and $150 outright respectively for each.
I started thinking about getting a 6S so I checked prices a couple of months ago. I prefer to buy mine outright rather than pay each month. The 7 128 gb was $750; the 6S 128 gb was still $650. Only $100 difference, and at that price I might as well get the 7. But, three or four years ago the 6S would have historically dropped under $200.
I think gone are the days of buying a generation older for a decent price. And unfortunately, the new ones just go up every year (5C pricing excluded).

I use my phone mostly for calls and texts (LOL imagine that), so I don't need a "pro" type phone... I thought I read an article that the release could be delayed - they may have their intro to the new phone but that people won't actually get it until maybe November?

There is some speculation about production delays that will make getting our hands on the 8 pretty difficult for a few months after its release. I'm not a huge techie either... My current phone is 3 years old and slowing down. I mainly want the awesome camera that the 7 plus has!

I won't upgrade this year. I have the 7+ and freaking love it. The camera alone is amazing. I take all my soap photos for the online shop with it.

The only way I would even consider buying a new phone when they come out is if the sizes come down.
I have a tablet, I don't want another one. I want a phone I can put it my back pocket (and I do that ALL THE TIME, have since the 3S); I want a phone I can hold in one hand, text with one hand, watch a YouTube video in bed without getting carpal tunnel or worrying about breaking my nose if I drop it on my face. If I want something bigger, I'll use my tablet.

My 6 plus was just paid off this month. As much as I want to upgrade, I will resist. I think I would love the 7 plus for the camera, so maybe in a few months I will get one of those. I don't feel like I need the 8 just yet.

When I bought my 6 two years ago I had intended to have it for a long time, but I bought the smallest size model for $300 which is now out of space so I'm annoyed I have to upgrade. Last I checked to get a new iphone would be $600, I thought that was outrageous. If the 8 is going to be $1000, no fucking way. I will buy an older model. To me it's the principle of it all.

Re: the no physical home button, newer android phones that don't have a home button detect touch when they are 'off', and then an on-screen home button appears.
Also some have an 'always on' screen that has some customizable functions. Muy always on screen just has the date, time, and home button. You can turn this off and then the phone just detects touch as mentioned above.

they also discussed a possible wrap around screen (around just over the edges). the galaxy edge photos have this - and it makes the screen that much easier to crack unless you case it up - and then you cover the screen wrapped edge gina

Ugh! The headphone jack thing!
Yurbuds are the only in ear headphones that I can wear. All others either fall out immediately or won't go in to begin with.
It ticks me off that I have two perfectly good pair of headphones that cost less than $20 each. If I get a new phone I either am forced to buy an adapter or buy new $50+ headphones. Who the heck cares about the headphone jack?! Did removing it *really* free up THAT much room for something that useful to warrant removing something extremely useful?
Oh, and I use my AUX cord daily in my car. I have a Bluetooth plug in thing, but the AUX cord is much more convenient.
