It's now midnight Tues/Wed and has been raining between 5-7"/hour with about 30" of rain since midnight Mon/Tues.
People around my house are calling in to be rescued. ***I am not at my house. I am not in danger.***
ETA - The measure reset at midnight, and now they're saying it was more like 24", so maybe I misheard earlier.

Do you have word on how your home is holding up? No. Before this evening, there was rain total somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 1/2 feet. What remains of Harvey should go right over it with winds 40-50mph plus however much more rain. I've been preparing myself to have nothing left. Hugs, you have my thoughts and prayers that that is not the case. It is so heartbreaking to see the pictures of the flooding.

I'm listening to a man right now who had to tell a woman with 4' of water in her home to empty everything out of her freezer (must be a deep freeze), put some blankets in and try to float until help can get to her.
The roads are flooded. It's still raining. There's 2 apartment fires. The only way to get around is by a flat-bottomed boat.
Everyone must be in survival mode in Port Arthur at this time.

All of my around me have water inside. How much, maybe a few inches. The only thing saving me right now is my lot is higher than my neighbors.I thought pier homes were better cause they were higher but...
The only thing keeping me sane is my Dad. He came over for the night because my dh is working at the refinery. My dh is frustrated but he wouldn't be able to make it home if he tried. I still have my fingers crossed but...No, I am staying positive, at least for my kids sake. Jennifer.

I'm sitting in tears right now. I feel helpless. For the grace of God and my Dad I don't have water in my house RIGHT NOW, however, my dd is in a group chat and most of her friends are reporting from 6 inches to 4 feet in their houses. One is even saying the water is coming in from the walls. I really feel helpless right now because I want to help, but what? I wish I had a magic wand.

Jennifer Unless the water is quickly rising, 6 inches is uncomfortable but they can hang on. 4 feet of water needs to call 911 and hang on through the cue. Help will get to them. Even dump trucks are now being used to help get through the water. While they are waiting, tell them to get up on their furniture and if the water is still rising, to find ANYTHING that will float. They can use air mattresses, REGULAR mattresses, or even, as above, a freezer. (God... I hate to tell people to get into a freezer, but it can work if they don't close the lid.) The worst of the storm has finally passed Port Arthur. Nederland will be very soon. It's gonna keep raining, but the rate is MUCH less. ETA - Jennifer C - If they can get on the roof, that's an option. ONLY GO TO AN ATTIC IF THERE IS A WAY TO THE ROOF AND TAKE AN AXE OR SOMETHING TO BREAK THROUGH TO THE ROOF.

Most of them are getting out. Several live in the Lakes of Nederland addition so they expected to flood but like one Mom said, go where? Bmt is just as bad. Right now, according to my dd, 3 of her friends families have pulled out their flat bottom boats and are transporting people to a drop off place that the PD says they will pick them up from. I'm not sure where they are going because the Port Arthur civic center, which already has evacuee's is now taking in water. I'm just holding on here. Water has receded and I have a sign of relief. I had a moment of laughter because my dh called and asked if the water was coming in. I said no, it hasn't made it to the porch yet, still on the steps (I have 4 steps.) He said No, from the floor. I was like, the floor!?!?!?!?! What? I was so worried about all the water coming in the outside doors that I didn't even think of the water under the house seeping through the floorboards. Again, Thank God for Daddy. Jennifer

My heart is breaking reading all these updates. Fro the Peas and their families affected, please know that people around the world are thinking of you and hoping for your safety. Well, you sure as Hell aren't getting updates on The Weather Channel, CNN or Fox News. I may be just a bit pissed about that. They've known since last Friday at the least that this storm was likely to come east as a restrengthened Harvey. They knew Tuesday. They knew Monday. They knew Sunday. They knew Saturday. This is where Aderson Cooper from CNN and Shepherd Smith & Geraldo Rivera from FOX hung out during Hurricane Rita. This is where Hurricane Ike came right after it made landfall just down a short ways in Galveston. This is where a great deal of the oil refining of the entire country is. Every week they're shut down they lose 2% of their yearly refining.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office - Texas If you are in a flooded home and still have electricity, please turn it off. You are in danger of electrocution. A large number of rescues are underway in Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Liberty and Chambers County. There are people trapped in homes and vehicles. If winds ramp up to 45 mph, rescues may cease. Use a broomstick or other wooden material to do this. From earlier this evening, but it's good advice for all those still in Harvey's path or who have water coming into their homes now. Use a wooden stick - a yardstick, a broomstick - and flip your power off. Do NOT try to turn off your power with your hands when you are standing in water.

I'm sorry. So, so sorry. The national news follows where the story is right NOW. For half a day it was Rockport and the other communities devastated by the hurricane force winds and then everything turned to the water devastation in Houston. We'll have to wait and see what takes priority for tomorrow's news and I'm really sorry if it isn't Beaumont. SW LA is also being hit hard too from what I've seen reported. This hurricane/tropical storm will surpass anything weather event hitting the USA. SaveSaveSaveSave

slapping someone offering well wishes from Australia isn't really helpful No, it isn't and that wasn't my intent. I deeply apologize to AllieC if it came across that way. I'm reading and listening to real time desperate pleas for help, and when I check the TV channels, I see someone standing in Sugarland near Houston or in New Orleans. That's not where the story is. They've yet to even acknowledge the woman who died in Beaumont this afternoon, and she is not the only death in this area tonight. The rate of rain in the last 24 hours was as dramatic as that of Houston. The rainfall levels will meet the levels of Houston. A great deal of the area is underwater and people are trapped. I keep yelling at the people on TV to finally cover SE Texas and it's not doing any good at all. Again, AllieC , my humblest apologies. ETA - I don't know why they haven't been using the information from the local station in Beaumont. They may have helped a lot of people tonight if they had and it makes me angry that they did not.
