Checking to see how everyone in the path of the storm is doing. As big as the storm is, I'm sure many on here are dealing with Harvey this weekend. Here in the middle of Houston we've been spared much of the rain & wind. Our neighborhood was in between the bands most of the time. Until now that is. Now we are getting our first heavy band that is coming in from the west. There have been some tornadoes in the outlying areas. We have been very lucky compared to what our coastal communities are dealing with. It also looks like Victoria has had a lot of damage as well. TXMary - Have you had any reports on your place yet? When you have a chance, please let us know how you are holding up.

We are in the Katy area and have also been between the bands all day. We are getting pounded right now and it doesn't seem like it will let up anytime soon. 😩

Here in San Antonio, they were expecting us to get 20 inches of rain. I think we've maybe had 2 or 3. We seriously dodged a bullet. I hope that everyone in the path of the storms stays safe!

In Hays County (just south of Austin proper) it's been windy and rainy all day. Flood prone streets are starting to close, small trees have been uprooted, real-estate signs have been relocated, things like that. The water continues to drain in most flood prone area keeping the flooding at a minimum. Overnight is going to be fun with the heavier winds and more rain.

My parents in Houston (my mom is an honorary Pea) were right near (but unaffected by) that Cypress tornado. When I talked to my dad, he said they'd had maybe 5 inches out there, but of course, there's more to come. No power outages or anything, thankfully.
I'm in Austin, and at our end of things, we've had about 3 inches of rain today and some strong winds. We actually went out to lunch (the kids were driving us insane) and a neighborhood right by here must have had a microburst or very small tornado or something, as there were some massive trees broken in half. DH was happy as since I've been trying to lose weight, I haven't had a lot of alcohol in the house - but I did buy "hurricane wine" that we broke open tonight at dinner!

My BFF lives there, seems there is *always* flooding. Hope things continue to go well! I'm just north of SA and so far our rain totals are lower than expected. DH and his friends had their annual fantasy football retreat in Chappell Hill this weekend and were under tornado warnings much of the afternoon. With the heavy rains still expected in the area they decided to head home tonight instead of tomorrow. Ugh. So he's driving on I10 right now. Going to be a long couple of hours until he gets home! Be safe ladies!

I'm going to be honest, we're a little freaked out over here. The tornado warnings right now are immediately to our southwest. I grew up in tornado country, but we always had a basement. I feel like there's no good place to shelter in our open-plan, one-story house.
My teenagers are sitting here on the couch with me. They're scared enough they want to hang with mom.
ETA: just heard they're measuring the rain at 4-5" per hour not far from here. That's not good news for the folks in flood-prone areas.

It's been raining from one degree or another off and on all day where I live. No strong winds or torrential rain here at my home yet. Just some minor street flooding at the places that always flood in heavy rains in my neighborhood. We're expecting worse weather overnight and tomorrow though. There's some ominous thunder rumbling off in the distance.
Watching the weather channel and packing tonight. Might as well be useful, you know?

My siblings in the Alvin area have had over 5" of rain and lots of tornado warnings, but are OK.
I'm in Dallas, dry as a bone.
My sister's step son lives in Rockport. He was finally able to see his home. Lost an above ground pool, screened in porch. Then a tree fell on house, made hole in the roof, so he knows water damage is happening and nothing to do about it now. Damage--but not destroyed.
Best news, is everyone physically safe. Sad that one person has died, but at least not many deaths in the area.

Do y'all have a closet or bathroom on the interior? I hope nothing comes to pass from the warnings, as it often doesn't. Will be thinking of you guys! 4-5" per hour? Geez that's not good.

Like Merge I am getting a little nervous in the past 15 minutes or so. Off and on drizzle during the day (mostly dry) but heavy rain and lots of thunder now. Our phones keep going off with tornado warnings for our area. We have no sirens here, so I keep listening for the freight train. It's going to be a long few days. Hunker down everyone.

Twitter and the weather alerts are enough to make me edgy tonight!

My sister is in Hays Co., just to the north of San Marcos. She's lost part of a large pecan tree and a few shingles, so I'm worried a bit. We owned a home in Wimberley until last year (sold after my mom passed). After what that area went through with the big flood, I would imagine everyone in that area is quite nervous. Merge - Stay safe! An interior closet or shower/tub will work if you need it. We are getting lots of thunder and lightening right now, along with some heavy rain. I've opted to stay in my regular clothes and am ready to head for our interior bedroom need be.

When you have a chance, please let us know how you are holding up. Thanks for asking! We have been checking Facebook all day for updates and only just got one about an hour ago. Someone in our POA posted a video of a drive by of the front of the resort and it looks pretty good! Of course, no idea how our lot looks but it's a good sign. Our lot is towards the back and about 150 yards from the beach. Hopefully, our damage is minimal. I was very glad to see the palm trees that line the front of the resort were all still standing! I hope ours are too! There are reports that the RV park a couple of miles away was completely destroyed. I have seen a lot of photos of damage in Port Aransas and it's bad but not as bad as Rockport. Very extensive damage there. It's so sad. Here at home in Temple, it's been raining all day but just a light, steady rain. Nothing heavy or severe. Stay safe, everyone!!

It was pretty dry here in Pearland all day. I've known of some people nearby that have lost power for short periods over the last day or so but we've been lucky so far. Very heavy rain with thunder/lightning started here a little while ago. Very loud!

TXMary - So glad you have had encouraging news. I was looking through some photos of Rockport and saw the RV park that was demolished. I immediately thought of you and hoped it wasn't your park. Merge - just checked the map again and it looks like it's moving out of your area. Hope you are able to get some sleep tonight!

Willow waterhole is out of its banks and Brays Bayou is about to be. Water standing in our street and covering sidewalks. Water in houses half a mile away. Another band moving through later tonight. I've got our important docs and photos well up off the floor. I'm not sure what else to do. Fortunately we've still got power.

That's not good. :-( Do you have any concrete blocks you could use to raise furniture off the floor? I'd roll up rugs and put as much up high as possible. Hopefully you won't have a problem though. You haven't with the other floods in that area, right? Will be thinking of you and hoping for the best.

My house has several that would make excellent tornado shelters. Take everything out if you have to. Your lives are more important than your clothes. I've got our important docs and photos well up off the floor. I'm not sure what else to do. I am not an alarmist. Believe me, living with someone who was last out first back (if we left at all) proves that I am not. So, take what I say as coming straight from General Honore of New Orleans Katrina... seriously prepare to evacuate to higher ground. This is Day 1 of what will be 4,5,6 days of constant rain.

I heard Lt. General Honore' say the same thing. Evacuate to higher ground if you are in an area that could possibly flood. He respects the job Texas is doing, but disagrees that sheltering in your home is a good idea. He doesn't want to see a repeat of Katrina.
I pray that everyone makes the best decision for themselves! Stay safe everyone! Thinking of all of you affected by this storm.

Safe out in Katy thus far!! Had periods of hard rain with thunderstorms (a few tornado warnings also) then periods of no rain on and off again all day.
My Next Door app just alerted me that the Constable for Fort Bend County is warning that the area around Barker's Dam may overrun it's banks and flood parts of Cinco Ranch in Katy. I live in Cinco Ranch, just not in this part at all. Scary.

After the first band went through we had a break for an hour or so, then it started again. It's been raining steady and hard since 11:15, with no sign of letting up. Since this morning (Sat) we've had 5.5". The street is full but not over the curb yet here. Other parts of town aren't as lucky. Already reports of neighborhoods on the south side of town that are flooded with water already in some homes. And there is still more rain to come.

Good news is the break between the 1st and second band gave the water time to recede. I've actually had a couple hours' sleep. It's still raining here, steadily, but water levels in the street are nowhere near what they were before. We are obviously very lucky so far, as there are reports of structural flooding all over the city. Bad news is, it's impossible to leave. The roads are flooded and impassable. At least one woman already died tonight trying to drive through floodwaters. If there's any evacuating to be done, they'll have to come for us in a boat. My oldest daughter has already had a panic attack tonight and I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that.
