I would like to think that is a joke. That is awful. My brother is a taxidermist and he's only had a couple people contact him about pets during his career. He does not do pets.

It's not her dog. She's copied the image from imgur.com and if you follow the source of the photo is was discussed on Reddit last year. I doubt whether it's a real dog anyhow, you can buy a rug with an animal head quite easily but they're not real animals, they're fake. The advert on the Dundee facebook marketplace has now been taken down apparently. I suppose she's had her 5 minutes of fame that she was so desperately after.

Thanks @dottyscrapper. I did a quick Google search to try and check it out, but couldn't find anything. I'm relieved it's not real.

I find the speciesism in our society incredibly perplexing.
I honesty don't see any difference between this and taxidermy of any other animal.

Thanks @dottyscrapper . I did a quick Google search to try and check it out, but couldn't find anything. I'm relieved it's not real. It was the office background that made me check and the fact she was selling it for £100. If that had been real it would have cost her thousands to have it done so she was unlikely to be selling it on the Facebook sites or for such little return. I doubt anyone is Scotland would have been happy for her to take that into the office to photograph if it was real either.

Sadly when I visited China they had pelts like this (sans head) for sale, I can't imagine wanting a German shepherd rug but they were for sale in Xian.

Dolphins, for example. So that explanation really doesn't justify the odd phenomenon.

I am very relieved to know that isn't real. It is just so very disgusting and pathetic to think of someone going to the effort of placing that ad as a joke.

I honesty don't see any difference between this and taxidermy of any other animal. Firstly this isn't taxidermy...this is a rug for the floor made for decoration (and potentially waking on) with the head still attached. If your point is that it is equally disgusting/disturbing for ANY animal that it is done to (not just pets) then I agree with you 100% However somehow I doubt that was the point you were trying to make. I'm glad this particular one was fake, however even fakes I find disturbing. I also hate those made of wood or cardboard or even crocheted ones or those rugs made of fake fur with heads attached. The fake ones still represent the idea of something - the idea that an animal was hunted and killed and then stuffed or skinned for the purposes of decoration. The fake ones are obviously not as bad as the real ones, but I still find it disturbing that some people think the fake ones are appropriate décor items for their homes. I'm very perplexed by that.

I mentioned it in the taxidermy thread. The only positive is the disdainful expression on the dog's face.

I know a few people who have have their dogs and cats done.
One house I cleaned , we had to be careful of the dog since it was losing it's fur. It was very sad looking.
And how do you dispose of something like that?

That is VERY poor taste. Revolting, actually. No. Just no. Seriously, is it a joke? Joke or not, it's in very poor taste.
