I have stamps from various kit clubs (most never used) and when I try to use them they are slick or greasy feeling. I've read on some other threads about things ruining stamps, but all mine are in original packaging. Do I need to remove them and store a different way. I'm not a huge stamper, but I don't want them useless either.

Brand new acrylic stamps often have a residue on them from the manufacturing process. Ways to clean it are rubbing a white eraser over it, washing with Dawn liquid soap, and/or sanding them very lightly with an emery board or very fine sandpaper. Try one (or all) of those.

I always go over mine with a white eraser as katlady suggested. Works every time.

I wipe stamps with a baby wipe before first use (and sometimes if the stamp has not been used for awhile). Makes a huge difference on how well they pick up and deliver ink.

Depending on the brand and how much residue on the stamp, sometimes I just stamp multiple times to get a stamp working properly.

I had the same problem with some stamps I just bought. The baby wipe didn't quite cut it so I used my white eraser and followed up with a light washing with Dawn dish soap. Did the trick.

Thanks everyone. I will give those suggestions a try. Glad to know that my stamps aren't melting.

So a pink pearl type eraser won't work as well as a white one? Any particular type of "white" eraser for optimal results? Thanks!

purplebee I don't know how well a pink eraser would work. Pink erasers are generally rubber while the white ones are vinyl/plastic. I find that white eraser erase cleaner than pink erasers so maybe it works the same with picking up oils. Try it and see. I think any white vinyl eraser would be ok.
