A little back story... My S-MIL died of cancer about 9 years ago. Her BFF and cousin is an awesome artist and while not famous across the world is well known in our little part of the world. They were very, very close and had an inside joke about this one nude model that Cousin painted from an art class. So, lots of good memories of that story and the picture. Having a piece of S-MIL's world and this awesome artist's work is a twofer. I received this painting from my FIL after saying, "Some day I'm going to get a piece of Cousin's art." He said, "You can have the naked lady." I didn't respond and 3 seconds later, she was in my hands. He noted, "We always have to take it down when Pastor comes over." Now, naked lady is mine. I want to hang her. But where... she matches nothing. I feel like she can't just stay in a closet. She is really well painted. It is a fun memory. But I really don't want to talk about her to friends, family or my children. Call me a prude. I just don't. But! If I could figure out to hang her artistically, I'd totally do it. Does that even make sense. One of my ideas is to have my DD make her a bikini out of paper. S-MIL and Cousin would think that is hilarious. She isn't big, 8x10-ish. Lovely frame, etc. Do you have any risqué art?

My late brother was a professional high-fashion photographer and he left me all of his art work and intellectual property. One of my favorites is a shot of lesbian lovers in a "bust" wrapped around "bust" photo. It's huge (18x24?) and framed. I have it hanging in my bedroom. I love to look at his art as it was his passion. And I don't mind looking at boobs. I rather find them erotic. So in my case, it's a win-win.
Good luck figuring it all out!

As the mother of an artist that has had 3 figure painting classes I have a stack of nudes in my basement. DH has an issue with them so none are hung but the minute he's out of here one is going up in my home office.
My sister had a naked picture ( charcoal ) in her dining room as it paired with a charcoal boxer picture by the same artist.
I've been to people's houses that had them in hallways it's just art

I did a naked lady painting, although it isn't terribly risque as it's a view from the back. But there is some side boob and naked butt. I hang her in my bathroom. It just seems to fit there. I have another painting I did that probably boarders on vulgar I made for DH as a joke. It doesn't hang anywhere. It sits in the corner of our closet, face to the wall.

I had nude pin up girl prints in my guest bathroom. The theme of the bathroom was 'nudes,' so I also had a nude soap dish and outlet cover.

From your description it sounds a straight forward nude, not an erotic image (my mind went to the Kama Sutra art a former hairdresser hung in her salon). I'd hang it in my bedroom or bathroom. Is the framed piece 8x10? You could put it on an easel and create a shelf display, artfully staggering another framed piece so it covers the bits & pieces you don't want on full display.

Well, you only live once. Hang the art and live a little. Maybe not front and center in the foyer, but find a place for it. It'll bring you joy with your memories of then to see it now.

I have a Marilyn Monroe that will go in my bathroom. And I have a very risqué ashtray that hangs in the wall in there. "Dirty" girls should always be hung in the bathroom. Actually they just fit the bathroom decor better.
Btw way it's my house, my art, if you are offended stay away. I would never take down artwork because someone is a prude. The next door ben again Christian woman wanted me to take down my ashtray, nope not happening. I can't wait for her to see the Marilyn.

I have a nude painting in our master bathroom, on the wall over the tub. Our shower is in a separate water closet and the bathroom is very large and open so I'm not concerned about the piece being damaged by water or steam. My mom, who for much of her professional life owned an art gallery, had an erotic piece of art by a very prominent Canadian artist hanging in her bedroom. Had it been in a public area of my parents' house, it would have been a conversation piece for sure! I say hang your art and enjoy it. Your piece sounds great, and it sounds like you appreciate it. It's better than some mass produced piece of crap you buy to match the sofa

It sounds too special to hide and it sounds like you want to display it - I would hang it in my bedroom but on a wall that doesn't face the hallway (in other words so if a passerby went by the room, they couldn't see it unless they went into the room. I doubt you have many guest actually go into the master bedroom. Of course you know the saying around here ** this thread is useless without pictures **

Nah, nothing straightforward nude or erotic. Just a lady sitting naked, in a sort of backwards criss-cross apple sauce pose. Just a boob. And her lovely fat rolls. Cousin doesn't usually do people so that is part of the joke. The only thing she truly loved about the picture was the rolls because they reminded her of doing landscapes. And let's be honest, this woman is a pro, the painting is great. I can only draw stick figures so I could be wrong.

Can you hang her inside the closet door so every time you open it you see her?

Ok. we need to see a picture of the painting. I would never ever have someone put a paper bikini on a painting?!! cripes. If you are such a prude about it, I would maybe give it away to someone else that could appreciate it. I like the bathroom ideas, and bedroom ideas. Who would really care if you had a barely naked painting hanging on your wall?

Unless it's erotic, it wouldn't be on my radar as offensive to anyone. When I first got married, 23 years ago, we went to an exhibit of line drawings by Pablo Picasso. When we got home I did nude line drawings of my husband and myself. They hang in our bathroom.

Ok, I think you're a prude.
I have a painting of a naked man and woman in an embrace in my living room. You can see his penis and her breast. On the same wall is a painting of 3 naked ladies with their arms around each other, two facing forward and the one in the mide facing backward. So you see one ass, two sets of boobs, and two pubic mounds.
It has never occurred to me to take them down when anyone comes over. No one has ever been shocked by them. My kids went through a phase where they would slap the naked butt every time they walked by because they're boys and they're obsessed with butts.

Oh, PS. I was taught drawing/Art in college by catholic nuns. They LOVED naked art. They always went on about the beauty and perfection of God's work.

My sister has a nude drawn by my mother when she was in art school. It's in her former master bathroom, which is now her guest room. I think it works well there add a subject as it's right near the shower, however be aware if you put it near somewhere with a shower you could damage the painting with steam.
The most "risque" artwork I have is more morbid, it looks like a severed head but it's actually a sketch of a head of a statue. It always hung in my parents house and I asked for it when they moved. No one has ever said anything about it, never at my parent's house and never at mine. I'm pretty sure most parole either don't notice or keep comments to themselves. So hang it where you want it!

I definitely wouldn't cover it with a bikini! I think that is offensive to the artist and will only draw more attention to it. An 8 x 10 is small enough to put in a living area and not be on the radar of most people that come to your place. I don't think it would even notice and even if I did it wouldn't offend me.
If you don't want to display it publically, put it into the spare room where you will still see it.

I've had a hankering to really fix up my closet. It isn't a huge one, not even really a walk in sized but the rods run from front to back instead of side to side which means I do have areas of the back wall exposed and would make a lovely place to hang art. I've also got two overhead lights that are boring. I'd like to put up a pair of tiny fancy chandeliers. Nude art would be great! Something interesting to look at when the closet door gets left standing open but not normally public viewing.

My mother's cousin was an artist. When you walked in to our home, they they were to greet you. A woman with her bare breasts for the world to see. I grew up thinking it was totally "normal" to walk in a home and see boobies

I have a sketch by someone you've probably heard of hanging in my house over my couch of 2 people doing the deed. Only my FIL has said something ... in private to my husband. "It looks like 2 ppl fucking" haha.
Uhh.. yeah.

Ok, I think you're a prude. Bawahahahahaha! I lived in Germany for 8 years. It was nothing to see full nudity wherever you wanted. Like the naked girl of the day on the front of the newspaper. Or the TV. Or posters. Just not a thing. I was actually fairly desensitized to nudity when I came home. Then I had children. And while I absolutely do not mind talking about the human body with them (and trust me, they talk. A lot.) I don't really need to encourage them. LOL! My precious snowflakes are exactly the kind who will tell the random store clerk about naked lady, my DD will compare my fat rolls to naked lady- in public. So I am laughing that I am a prude but I promise it comes from a place of sanity saving.

It would never occur to me to need to hide it, unless it was showing something truly pornographic that might be hard to explain to the kids.
Straight up nude? Can go by the front door if that's where I want it.

I have lots of risqué artwork in my house. It is gathered on one very long wall in my upstairs hallway since access to the second floor is only for my immediate family. My favorite piece of artwork is a signed print by John Lennon from the late 70's of he and Yoko naked and intertwined. It's called BagOne, it's a numbered limited edition and was a wedding gift from my aunt. My family is very artistic and free-spirited. DH's family was very uncomfortable about it but so what? It's in my house, not theirs.
It is on the second level because when my kids were little, I didn't want to have to explain to other parents what their kid saw on the walls of my house. I'm planning on rearranging everything in the living room and moving the art downstairs, now that kids are grown.
As they say, good artwork never matches the furniture. Hang it up and enjoy.

This all hinges on one's definition of risqué, I suppose. I don't find most nude art to be risqué and would hang it anywhere in my home. The only exception would be if it depicts a sex act and even then I might hang it in my bedroom if I found it a compelling enough piece of art.

She did not hang in our previous home because I got her in May and we moved in August (and we knew we were moving, so why hang her?) I'm by nature not a serious person so please understand, this is just a conversation. I always do what I want. I am not "worrying," this is just a conversation in which the situation is discussed. Extrapolation of emotions and feelings is so rampant on this board so I'm just wishing to clarify my position.

Will she compliment your master bath? Other people would be unlikely to see her there. Or a powder room. I would likely decorate the room around her, using colors in the painting. Have fun with it.
