I was sceptical and I thought it was greedy of the show's producers to make this change just for the money. I was worried they would go all 'slick' and fancy and alter it too much.
I just watched the first episode and I was surprised to find that I still enjoyed it. I think they managed to keep the charm of the show intact. They obviously spent some time picking people for the new on camera team and I think the new hosts and judge will be OK after all.
That Noel guy is a bit unusual, but he's likeable enough. I see there's been some criticism of him (especially his voice) but I've not seen him in anything before & therefore have no pre-conceptions of what he 'should' sound like, so I didn't see anything wrong with it.
The contestants seemed like fun, I'm calling the guy that won this week 'Prince Harry' I'd love it if the was the final winner and got to make a cake for the real Prince Harry, that would be a fun photo moment.
I thought the right person went home, but that handbag cake lady was lucky it wasn't her.
Overall, despite my initial misgivings...I'm still in for this season. You?

Business as usual. I usually find Noel Fielding creepy, but he was quite charming. I've always liked Sandy Toksvig. The humour was gentler and not forced as it was with Mel and Sue. The contestants seemed pleasantly normal.
Can't abide Paul Hollywood. Never could.

I loved it. I have absolutely no issues with any of the hosts or what they did with the programme. It has barely changed at all. It's a pain about all the ads but recording it and fast forwarding through them sorts that. I thought the Russian lassie didn't seem robust enough. If she is in tears after a very slight bit of criticism in the first week, I'm not sure how she'll last through the process. I loved the stack of pancakes. I agree, handbag wifie is lucky to still be there.

I didn't see the first fifteen mins or so, was busy getting back from a preseason meeting my DD had to attend. Clearly, the male organizers were unaware of GBBO.
I thought that some of the showstoppers were amazing. The right person went home but one or two others were lucky.
For the first time we had ads. Ugh. There is a reason I don't mind paying for the TV license, no ads on the BBC.
Seems like a nice group of people again, all supporting each other. I will keep watching.

I agree 100% with your assessment. I thought it was well done. It all really comes down to the bakers, and they seem to have a good lot this season.

I thought we always got it months later. What network is carrying it in Canada now that it moved from PBS?

I enjoyed it too. I've always liked Sandi T but I was unsure about Noel...and the jury is still out for me.
I agree the poor Russian girl seemed overly emotional at this stage!!
A good start 🙂

Did anyone else think the older lady looked just like Vera Duckworth?
