Bought a couple dresses today, but after started to wonder if i'm too old for a lace dress. I tried to find it on the site to show it, but it's not there. Anyway I bought it in Kohl's woman's dept, the brand is Chaps. I'm in my late 40's. So there is an under-dress that is black w/spaghetti straps. Then the over-dress is all black lace. It's long sleeved, regular neckline (as in tee shirt type neck.) I didn't feel like it looked too young in the store, but now after thinking about it i'm wondering if there is some unwritten (or written ) rule about a lace dress. To me the brand name as well as style of their dresses didn't make me think too young, but i'm wondering what the peas think.

Never too old for lace!
If you like it, wear it proudly.

I love lace and the dress sounds beautiful. If you feel good in it, that's all that matters! I'm mid 40's and have quit caring about age appropriate clothes (well, except for hoochie momma clothes with all your parts sticking out).

Never heard of anyone being too old for lace. Too old for certain styles of dresses maybe, whatever the material is, but lace itself...no. Go ahead and wear it if it makes you feel good From your description it sounds lovely.

knowing the brand, I would say no- it sounds pretty. it sounds like it could be kinda formal, depending on how it actually looks, but no, lace doesn't have an age limit.

Never! Wear whatever you want. I'll admit to judging only if someone shows too much of anything

I bumped a thread for you. Lace has been thought of as matronly in the past. If I were making the determination, here's my thought process. OK, lace. Does the garment also have ruffles, a ditsy floral print, or some other quality that makes it skew young. For me, lace great. Probably pass it up if it had any of those other things going on though.

I don't think there is a "too old." And I happily wear things like leggings and short skirts and shorts that are in the "maybe you are too old for this" category. *On me,* lace ends up looking matronly. But I have seen other women my age look stunning. So I think it is person (or maybe even garment) specific.

Gee - my mom wore lace until she was 75. I don't think anyone can be too old, or young, for lace.

I am just about your age, and love my new lace dress. I think it looks classy.
Just to be clear, I often shop in a store that caters to the 20 something set. I am not rocking a midriff or anything. I choose pieces that I enjoy. If someone thinks it is too young for me, that's on them.

Funny how the old is new, what comes around goes around comes into play time and time again. Some "whippersnapper" made it new and cool again. If you like it, it's flattering and you're comfortable, I say go for it.

(I am too old for itchy lace, though. I will not put up with scratchy itchy lace just soft pretty lace!)

If you feel good in it, that’s what matters. Screw any outdated notions of being “too old” for things.
