We eat them year round.
I like them best, fresh and green. So, we grow them in our garden. Seems the stores only sell the dried variety.
In the south, one eats them on New Year's Eve to bring good luck.

I'm not sure if I've ever had them. I like pretty much all kinds of beans except kidney and lima beans.

I make a salad with them--green and red pepper, red onion, jalapeños, lots of Italian parsley, plus a vinaigrette. I'm obsessing about it now...

Love them! Even from a can, I love them. I used to take myMom to Black Eyed Pea the restaurant on Wednesday as they always had Black eyed Pea soup that day. Mmmm so good!
Can't get my kids to eat them. But they will eat fried okra. Go figure.

librarylady we are in the same area. I think Cox Farm Market, just south of downtown, will have fresh. I'll check next week if you want to trek down for them.

I made Hopping John just this week since peas are fresh.

When you ask me what my last meal would be, black eyed peas are a part of it. Love them-even out of the can. I make a 'fake' hoppin john recipe about once every two weeks.
They make my taste buds swoon. lol

I eat them, when Aldi gets the dried ones in around New years I stock up on a couple bags and make them in the instant pot. I think it's Pioneer Woman's recipe. Good stuff.

I love them, but they have to be fresh or frozen fresh peas. I have eaten peas from a can once. Never will eat canned peas again.

I can't stand them. My mom's family was from Texas (moved to CA during the war) so I grew up eating BEP's {blech!}

I'll be in Canada then. We have 3 rows in the garden and the plants are blooming--so we should have some before the first frost.

I love them in a salad or in cowboy caviar. I don't eat Hoppin' John often, but I do like it.
