If you travel scrapbook/journal, what sorts of things do you bring with you when you travel? I've been watching youTube videos (way too many YouTube videos!), but thought I'd ask the Peas for input. I'm going to attempt to travel journal for the first time on my vacation next week. I expect to have a couple of hours of downtime each day and though this would be a fun and relaxing way to spend that time.
I bought an inexpensive travelers notebook from Michaels and repurposed a small square box (that once held a tea gift set) for my supplies. So far I've packed a small pair of scissors, glue pen, journaling pen, a couple of thin rolls of washi tape, and a few tags and small embellishments. I'm also planning to add some scraps of cardstock and printed paper. I also recently bought the HP Sprocket portable printer so I'll be able to add a few pictures to my notebook as well.

You are way ahead of me. I have loose leaf notebook for every trip with info about where we are going. And a destination calender. All I do is occasionally make a note about a picture I took on the calender. When I get home, I can remember where I took all the pictures from the calender and info in the notebook. I start my scrapbook right away so I can usually remember everything I want to journal. My dh always remembers forever where he took every picture. Don't ask me how....but we scanned some pictures from a 1972 hike at big bend national park yesterday . He went over the entire hike and told me where and how he took every picture. There were about 40 pictures. His memory is unremarkable otherwise.
Let us know how yours goes!

Great plan! If you can print photos and write journaling as you go, you should end up with an awesome TN.
How will you title each page/section? If you create titles before you go, with stickers, diecuts or on the computer, you can glue them in once you have your other elements on the page.

I don't take much because despite my good intentions I find that I really don't have a lot of time. I usually start out keeping up to date, but by the middle of the trip I start falling behind. I take my TN, a couple of permanent pens in different colors, a glue stick, tape, scissor, my LG photo printer, a small alphabet sticker set, and a small watercolor set. I add ephemera I find on my trip.

I take a few pens and washi taps wrapped around a plastic card, and some stickers. In the past I've taken a little printer too. But I find I use less than I expect and spend less time than I would want to. And somehow I don't magically transform into an amazingly artistic person when I go on a trip. I always seem to think I will. That I'll suddenly find the ability to watercolor and draw. But no. I'm my regular self with less time and energy, generally speaking. Sometimes just taking scrawly notes is the best I can manage. Often the pressure/lack of ease of being in an unfamiliar place makes me even less creative than usual.
I'd love to watch some videos of other people's travel journals though! Any really fun ones you can recommend?

Patter, I love the idea of the Vera Bradley makeup case for travelling art supplies. And preprinting Your decorative pages - genius! Your book is beautiful.

Wow, looking at her smashbook reminds me why I was so excited when they came out. They were my gateway back to scrapbooking. I currently do Project Life, but I still have new smashbooks in my stash. Now I need to consider using my smashbooks for some projects!

freeatlast thanks for those links. I've just spent half of the afternoon watching Jacki Q videos getting ideas about different journaling formats and techniques.

I've shared links to my travel journals here before, but as I just finished the latest one, here's a link I always struggle to keep my journal different from my PL, which I keep going, and my blog, because I keep that going as well. Yes, I guess I'm addicted to keeping every one of those memories Key to success for me is to make sure I record it at the time, or else I forget. So, if I can't complete the full journal page, I scribble notes or a PL card to make sure the details don't get overwritten by the next amazing experience. To begin with, I try to spend the evenings recording the day but inevitably, I'm just having too much fun to keep it going and usually have to complete it at home. We are about to go off on another road trip, in Germany this time. I'm trying to decide how to record this one and am leaning towards a TN format, maybe pre-preparing a few pages using the Paislee Press TN printables from the Lilypad, because we're travelling with friends and I'm hoping to create something I can duplicate for them, too. So, who knows, this one might be digital - a first for me! I'll bet that once we are home, I won't be able to resist getting out my glue and scissors though. Thanks for all the links shared here - really interesting to see what others do, and very inspiring as well.

I wonder if recording audio notes would be easier in the moment. I find after the first few days of a trip i'm burned out trying to write everything down at night. Audio would be so much quicker. Next time i going to create audio files so i can transcribe after the fact.

Thanks for the responses everyone...I'm looking forward to checking out your links.
My trip is coming up quickly (I leave Friday) and I expect the work days between now and then to be pretty long; so I added some paper scraps, small alpha stickers and some Tim Holtz word/phrase stickers to my kit last night and decided to call it good. I'll report back after my trip!

Next time i going to create audio files so i can transcribe after the fact. lisacharlotte I always forget that's possible! I used something like the Day One app a few years back, which (I think) had an audio facility, but now I've an Android phone I need to look for an alternative. But actually, I rather like scribbling in a little notebook as I go, which also means I'm not worried about battery life and stuff. As long as I take loads of photos, I'm fine with the big story, it's the tiny details (what I overheard and stuff like that) I forget. And whilst that's not so important in some respects, I find that it's those bits that make us giggle ages afterwards and often, its those bits which find their way into the family legends too. Thanks for the phone/audio prompt! Very timely reminder for me.
