I was totally bewildered, wondering if this was a continuation of another thread I hadn't viewed yet. Now I get it. When's your birthday? I'll add an lasagna cake to the birthday thread just for you. I'm sure the internet has one somewhere. Sorry I usually don't share my birthday. (don't tell anyone, but the party will be this coming Sunday). Well, thanks for sharing with me. I hope you have a wonderful birthday MONTH!!

Wow so this is what it took for all of you to finally defend her for once lol I can't. I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree. Now I really wish the OP wasn't deleted... Something along the lines of: "Did you all see what Teresa Collins posted on IG? (insert many more question marks) Something-something a taco cake for her son-in-law! Something-something cultural appropriation. Something-something about it being horrible/bad." Frankly, I didn't even understand it was being implied Teresa might have culturally/racially stereotyped her son-in-law. There was a mention of cultural appropriation so I initially replied to that comment. Turns out it the OP actually meant that it may have been a racist thing towards Mauro. Not sure why the cultural appropriation was brought up in the OP then. Anyhoo, I'd be happy if someone stereotyped me typically French and made a macaron or baguette or camembert-shaped cake. Ooooh, a bottle of red wine-shaped cake... I guess I'd be far less happy with a pack of cigarette-shaped one especially since I've never smoked. But we can all agree tacos are universally loved and seen as a positive thing, right?

OK I started to respond but I am at work so now I'm back. I would have been interested in what the OP thought or saw that made her concerned about racism. Of course if we are talking Mexican heritage it's not really race we are talking about but ethnicity or national origin.
She obviously got concerned thinking it was another insensitive post by the TC who inflames some of us and not the TC who actually posted it. So I get that and wish she had just left her post and edited it if she decided to change her mind about it.
I don't mind deleting posts but when it is the original post it leaves a string of posts and that don't make sense out of context.
As for me and a taco shaped cake, I think it could be if they tease him about being taco or something trying to be funny but are insensitive. But if he just happens to be having a Mexican themed celebration and the cake is shaped like a taco, I wouldn't blink.

Maybe we shouldn't try to be offended on someone's behalf without knowing if they are offended in the first place. It's patronizing.

You know seeing the photo and the young man holding it , it does look a bit stereotypical. I don't know the motivation behind that choice for a cake though - maybe they joke about taco cake in their family or something.

I could totally see that being an inside joke. The only difference in how I would have handled it would have been to opt not to share it on social media because I wouldn't want to have to go 5 rounds with someone who didn't know the backstory/dynamic and therefore got their knickers in a knot over it. The problem with humor and the internet is that it often truly becomes a situation where "you had to be there".
