I have an HP Spectre tablet/laptop. I typically use Apple products. I think one of my kids was looking at a video or playing something and may have gotten a virus on the computer. The internet has been very slow and it seems like it is always "thinking" and when I have closed it down today there is a screen popup for a game. Is this a virus? What can I do about it?

I did do a virus scan and nothing came up. But the problems continue.

Try downloading and running Malwarebytes. Do you have a firewall up? Do you run a virus protection app all the time? Like AVG?

I have no idea. This is a work computer. I found windows defender so did a scan with that. I don't see any other antivirus software, but also don't really know where to look. I hate PC's.

It looks like I can't download anything without the admin password.

Have you tried googling the name of the game that keeps popping up to see if it's associated with a virus? Also, try deleting your history and cookies.

If this is a work computer, why is your kid using it?

If this is a work computer, why is your kid using it? My first thought.... Did deleting your cookies and history work?

My assumption was that one of them did something because one of the games that popped up is one that he plays on his ipad. But now there are different screens than that one so maybe it wasn't the case.

Clearing the history and cookies didn't work.

It looks like I can't download anything without the admin password. It may be time to contact the IT people at work. They will be able to help you. I guarantee you aren't the first person this has happened to. Good luck!
