My son is a rising high school sophmore (school starts next week) and is beginning to consider various college options. He plays lacrosee, and is very interested in playing NCAA lacrosse at a D1 university after he graduates from high school. The majority of D1 schools that have NCAA lacrosse programs are extremely expensive. And contrary to popular belief, there are very few scholarsips available for lacrosse, even at the D1 level. It isn't a revenue generating sport, and the small pool of money lacrosse coaches are given is split up among all the LAX players.
To offest tuition costs, he is "considering" applying for Air Force ROTC scholarships so we are beginning to research ROTC requirements, which schools that offer his major have ROTC on campus, etc.
So to my question, does anyone know if it is possible/allowed to be both a ROTC student and play athletics for your school? And if you have any experience and tips about applying for ROTC scholarships that you are willing to share, I'd love to hear them.

I know that in our district, JROTC is an elective class and not an extracurricular activity, like a sport it. My son did AFJROTC and cross country. Not sure why your son wouldn't be able to.
