Equifax says Social Security numbers, birth dates of 143 million consumers may have been exposed "Equifax, one of the nation’s three major credit reporting firms, announced Thursday that its computer systems had been breached, leading to the unauthorized accessing of Social Security numbers and birth dates of up to 143 million U.S. consumers... “The one thing that has held consistent in recent years is there’s substandard internal practices that lead to these breaches,” said Gibbs, a partner at Girard Gibbs. “Time and time again, the [breaches] are then blamed on sophisticated hackers. But the sophistication of the hacker doesn’t have to do with it, it’s the internal practices.”" www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-equifax-data-breach-20170907-story.html

Yep and dh's is not on the list, but mine is. I got this message when I went to the site. Funny thing is I got no reminder, I went to the site myself.
Thank You Your enrollment date for TrustedID Premier is: 09/11/2017 Please be sure to mark your calendar as you will not receive additional reminders. On or after your enrollment date, please return to faq.trustedidpremier.com and click the link to continue through the enrollment process.

I just checked mine and DH's. Mine came up saying I needed to return to the website and enroll on 9/12/2017. DH's came back and said they don't believe he was impacted but can continue to enroll in ID protection. Both of my kids came up as not impacted but can continue to enroll.
What a mess.

Infuriating. Both DH and I are on the list. Equifax already knows whose information has been compromised. They should be sending out notifications to those individuals and automatically enrolling them with fraud protection!

So if it says Thank you come back on a certain date, you were impacted? or not? That's all it said was Thank you.

What a mess indeed! What a pain for those affected, through no fault of their own.

Both dh and I were comprised. Looks like we will have to sign up for the fraud protection and also set up two step verification processes for all credit cards.

It should be. But it's good to be rich when you can pay to buy the laws that protect the rich.

My info is okay, but dh is not. I'll have to dig out the kid's numbers and check theirs.

So is it safe to put our info in to check if we were compromised or not?

How about all the profits from those stock sales can be used to compensate those affected by the breach...

Fabulous. I literally just filed away all the paperwork from multiple ID compromises this spring. What a PITA.

"Equifax says that this site will “indicate whether your personal information may have been impacted by this incident.” That is false as of this post’s publication. The company also says it will provide the checker with an “option” to enroll in TrustedID Premier. That’s also false. When a user inputs their data into the system, a message appears that the user can be enrolled in TrustedID Premier at a later date. Mine was 9/11/2017. This is completely irresponsible by Equifax. The site’s terms of service seem to state that by agreeing to use this service, the user is waving their rights to bring a class action lawsuit against Equifax. We have a note out to the company asking for clarification about this site’s capabilities, function and any rights forfeited. Until questions are answered, I would avoid using the site." techcrunch.com/2017/09/07/equifax-data-breach-help-site-leaves-consumers-with-more-questions-than-answers/

Mine said I had to come back on or after the date shown to complete the enrollment process so I don't believe checking enrolls you in anything.
I also don't understand how checking would waive any rights as we are a captive audience. It's their data breach and they are the only ones that can tell us if our information has been compromised.

Looks like I'm compromised. I already use LifeLock, is it necessary to use the one they are offering too?

Mine said:
Thank You Based on the information provided, we believe that your personal information was not impacted by this incident.
Click the button below to continue your enrollment in TrustedID Premier
Then after clicking the button they give me a date to come back and complete the free registration. If you have AAA they also offer free credit monitoring as part of your membership.

The only time I ever had a fraudulent charge hit my bank account it showed as being from Equifax. I have never trusted them because of that. A major player in the credit reporting sector should not be generating fraudulent charges. I've always wondering if it wasn't an employee up to something fishy since Google turned up tons of complaints similar to mine during the same time frame.
Anyway, luckily it looks like my social isn't one of those affected but I will continue to think Equifax is shady. Thanks for the heads up on this issue.

Thank you for posting this. I checked and my information was compromised, but DH's wasn't. I'm not enrolling yet though until I research more about this. Those bast**d Equifax should be prosecuted for insider trading and made to donate their profits to schmucks like me who have to deal with the fall out of their ineffective security protocols. This just sucks.

I was just coming to post this! Both dh and I have been compromised and we've already seen evidence that I am sure is tied to this.
Dh has a credit card # that was stolen a few months ago- and every replacement number since has been compromised- even before we receive a new card- I can't help but feel this is connected. Someone accessed my Comcast account and tried to order a cell phone from Comcast mobile as well. This sucks!
