My son, his date and 4 other couples will be eating at our house before homecoming. The dance theme is Mission Impossible. I don't think that all the kids have seen the movies so they may not get all movie references, but will get some.
What ideas do you have for food and decorating? It will be the first dance date some of them have had. I'd like to make this fun for them. No guns please.

the first thing that came to my mind is the opening sequence / idea of the tape, whatever self-destructing. So you could use sparklers to decorate on the table? or do they have candles that fizz like sparklers when they're lit?
All the Mission Impossible movies have the idea of disguises or masks, so you could do some cute photo props with masks, mustaches, fake nose / glasses, hats, etc.

if you looked on Pinterest or Googled ideas, you could probably just look for "spy" type ideas... as far as food ideas, hmmm... things that aren't what they seem to be? not sure how you could do that, but... I'll think about it.

I just saw something about European grocers offering "bug" burgers, made with veggie protein and insects. That would surely be "Mission: Impossible" for me!!!

I don't remember any of the movies or if I have even seen them so I wasnt sure if general spy stuff would work or not.
For some reason I had in mind a black tablecloth, but I'm not sure why. I have white dishes, but can see if someone has other colors they can loan me.
I didn't know about the disguises so that is a good idea.

Ok, with the sparkler idea I am now thinking of my dad as he will be in town. I can picture him in his goofy way of giving the kids a message and the box of sparklers as they leave, laughing and running off.

The ravioli with the egg yoke in it? Tell me more about this please. You have to look up the recipe. But it would be kind of a surprise food. Cut in to a ravioli and have a soft boiled yoke inside.

this link is for a 7 year old's birthday party, but you might still be able to use a few of the ideas for a high-school age party. Spy party ideas. The photo of all the strings making an obstacle course would be PERFECT-- it's a scene where Tom Cruise's character had to avoid a whole bunch of laser-eye things to avoid being detected while he stole something-- but I don't suppose they'd want to run any sort of obstacle course while they're dressed up, lol. I'm still trying to think of food ideas-- 'disguised' food of some sort is what keeps sticking in my head, but I don't have the faintest idea how you'd do that. eta: haha!! PopRocks with an 'explosives' label pasted on. that's a good one! eta2: laser maze done in a hallway with crepe paper streamers This is really cute! eta3: printable /cut out / assemble disguise kitone more idea- using a rebus (pictures / symbols), an easy letter substitution code, or some other sort of puzzle they have to solve in order to read the menu, perhaps?
