I'm subbing to the story kit and the story stamp, I'm not crazy about the stamp this month, and I particularly don't like that you've to line up the semi circles to make a clock I'm just not that steady it would take me forever I like the story kit, I love the rubber words and the acrylic word, I actually really like the clock but that's cause my sister is due a baby in November and I totally see using the clock in a when you were born layout I do want the 3x8 notepad but the same as the rest of the addons it is highly overpriced I debated on getting the digital file for the notepad, but then I figured if I'm gonna print it, might as well make my own. Definitely. Most of her stuff is super easy to duplicate in photoshop. For those keeping the phsyical kit+stamp because you like getting the digi for free- sell the kits and stamps you don't love on ebay or elsewhere. I did that for the last few before my 12 months was up. The ones I sold actually went for close to retail. I'm sure the kits that sold out/got wait-listed would do great.

Where are the older kits listed at? They used to scroll across her site but I haven't seen that for a while. I think they are pretty much just on the blog. I searched and found the am/pm kit and it IS a huge difference. ETA: for reference, this is the current Time kit. I'm going to have to defend her on this one... I don't think it's thinned. I know everyone has said this and I've been a subber from the beginning so I one time took like an hour of my time to categorize every kit and found that they really haven't gone down in size.
Take these two right here they both are identical when it comes to: (1) six 3x4 cards; (2) four 4x6 cards; (3) acrylic word of the theme; (4) chipboard sheet. So then you're left with the extras. AM/PM comes with: (5) transparent squares/rectangles; (6) transparent suns & moons; (7) number sticker sheet; (8) narrow label sticker sheet; (9) brads. Time comes with: (5) 7 rubber pieces; (6) wood veneer shapes; (7) puffy number stickers; (8) two sheets of clock stickers.
So by the numbers, after the core stuff in every kit, AM/PM came with 5 additional embellishments (if you actually count the two sets of transparencies as separate embellishments) and TIME comes with 4 additional embellishments. But if you get down to comparing embellishment by embellishment, I think TIME actually comes out on top.
AM/PM has the narrow label sticker sheet and TIME has two sheets of clock stickers. Those are both plain flat stickers, but you get two 4x6 sheets in TIME and one 3x6 sheet in AM/PM. I'm sure most people would agree the design is nicer for the AM/PM one, but for pure cost... TIME wins on this item.
Then the numbers. AM/PM comes with one sheet of flat number stickers and TIME comes with one sheet of larger puffy numbers. From a practical sense, the AM/PM ones might be better because there are more of each number. But from a cost perspective, the ones in TIME are definitely more expensive... they are puffy.
Finally, the remaining embellishments, AM/PM has a variety of transparency sheets--two sets I think, one in square/rectangle sized (6 pieces) and a set of small round ones (6 pieces) + plain silver brads. Lets be honest, the brads are basically worthless, there are like 9 of them and they are just plain silver. I do like the transparencies and there is a good variety of them, 12 total. TIME has 7 rubber pieces and 3 (or 4? I can't tell if the arrows are separate) wood veneer pieces. That is 10 pieces, only two less than the number of transparent pieces in AM/PM. But... we all know that of the 3 embellishment types (transparencies, wood veneers and rubber pieces) the rubber pieces cost the most. I would say wood veneer next, but they're probably comparable to the transparencies. Of course, the transparencies have whatever value the brads add to balance them out... but no way does that make up for the added cost of rubber pieces.
So at the end of the day, TIME is actually a fuller kit than AM/PM. From the photo it probably doesn't look it, it's more spread out for one thing. Also, in AM/PM they popped one of the chipboard shapes out and put it towards the top of the arrangement. I think TIME also gets slighted because when you have two sheets of the same sticker (like the black clocks) it doesn't look like much more than the label stickers in AM/PM in the photo... but it's really more than double the square inch of sticker.
Sorry for this ridiculous analysis... I am just super analytical and once I took this approach to breaking down the kits I keep getting so confused when everyone says they have been thinning. Like I said, I previously went back to the beginning and compared EVERY kit in this method...although with slightly less detail (I know, it took forever) and what I found is every kit has the same core elements (same number of cards, plastic word + chipboard sheet--either 1 4x6 or 2 4x4) and then what ranged from 3-6 additional embellishments. However, the number of additional embellishments has not gone down over time, it just varies from kit to kit and depends on what the item is... for example, if it includes something like a small sequin pack or twine, it's going to be a kit with more embellishments.
For sure criticisms could be made on the design of the kits, or if people don't like the specific type of embellishments included, but if you're talking about pure value (how much the items would cost to produce/retail for regardless of quality of design) I don't see it getting thinner over time.
ETA: I want to point out that even though AM/PM might have more variety in pieces, I think TIME definitely has more value in its pieces. Maybe the TIME kit would've benefited from having only one sheet of the clock stickers and adding a set of label stickers instead just for variety. I also think the AM/PM kit looks so full because of the size of the transparent pieces... if you really value huge embellishments, that might be worth more to you than the rubber pieces, but I think Ali has found over time that most of her subbers are using these for pocket pages so the large embellishments just aren't really hits. Who knows... but at the end of the day, I think there is more value in TIME.

I have to agree with you. I think it's the way it's photographed, but I don't think they are technically thinner. Honestly I have always felt they were on the thin side product wise, especially compared to the SC ones, but I think the class content makes up the difference. I have enjoyed her videos and layouts. They should have had a sheet of just zeros and then some more ones on the first sheet. What galls me is the add on prices, 3.99 for 8 punched out circles? ?? WTF? First off, i imagine most of us have a circle punch or 5 so it isn't like that is a an obscure shape, second of all they aren't even special paper or a special pattern that I can see. I could easily create identical looking circles in less time then it is taking me to type this. Why would I pay 3.99 for those? Actually on the video she said they are plastic not paper circles, so that makes a bit of a difference. But I still didn't add them. I am not a huge fan of plastic embellishments. Save

Ok so I will admit that this is the first kit since I started subbing six months ago that I am not super excited about. I don't really like the little black clock stickers (don't think I would use those, but who knows) and would have preferred the chipboard in navy. But I kind of went into my sub knowing there would be a kit or two I wasn't crazy about. That's how kit clubs always have been for me. But I also knew there would be some great kits I would hate to miss like "EAT". Still regret not jumping on that one.
You know, I like Ali a lot. I don't know her personally, but I have been a huge fan since 2004 when I first discovered her on the 2p's GG team. And I still feel she is authentic to herself. I don't think Studio Calico is the best partner though, but I think she really tries to keep things legit and stay on top of it. As opposed to April, Ali really seems to care. I never, ever got that vibe from April. So I am willing to cut her some slack when there are issues.

The description does say one sheet. I misread it from the clock stickers. Went back and watched the video. The main kit has one sheet of numbers. It's the add on number stickers in teal that is two sheets.

I think they are pretty much just on the blog. I searched and found the am/pm kit and it IS a huge difference. ETA: for reference, this is the current Time kit. I know everyone has said this and I've been a subber from the beginning so I one time took like an hour of my time to categorize every kit and found that they really haven't gone down in size.

Who knows... but at the end of the day, I think there is more value in TIME.
Thanks for your analysis. Maybe it hasn't thinned in value, just seemed like there was more value in earlier kits because of the variety and types of things included. Maybe, to me, the time kit seems thinner because I'm placing less value on the things I don't like, like those clock stickers. I probably won't use one sheet, much less two. I do think the included class/videos add a lot of value. I download the audio and listen on my commute. I've listened to the ones since I subscribed at least twice each.

On the subject of time - I bought this really great stamp from an Etsy seller last week. I love this stamp and I know I will get a lot of use out of it. Either to document the time or date. artistgather.com/collections/stamps/products/retro-flipUnfortunately, she was affected by Irma and her shop is currently closed. My order arrived last week, her service was fantastic, really quick, shipping was inexpensive and she included extra goodies, with a personal note. It's my 1st time ordering from her and I was really impressed. From reading her blog, I'm also inspired by her mission statement and what she is looking to achieve. artistgather.com/pages/about-meThis TN page inspired me to get this stamp http://instagram.com/p/BYi1tZ0g9IM

Well this is a timely thread. I subbed to the story stamp when it first came out and loved it but after several months I just wasn't keeping up with the content so I cancelled. I've been eyeing both the stamp and story kits recently wondering if I want to sub again.

Awwww! I like AE. I don't get all the Ali hate lately. I subbed to the Story/Stamp kit for probably almost 2 years. I quit because they were backing up and I wasn't scrapping enough. I would resub at some point. I think with any subscription kit there will always be months that you don't love the kit. I really like Ali's stamps. I use her stamps vs the ones that I buy because I think they are cute and they sit in a drawer.
I think what Ali has done is to successfully market her style of memory-keeping. There isn't anyone else who can really compete with what she does. I can't blame her for branching out and taking advantage of her opportunities. We all have the choice to buy or not buy. I'm not interested in t-shirts, notebooks,& etc...; but I like her scrapping products. Studio Calico may not be the greatest of partners, but I don't think there are tons of options in the scrap business for AE to choose from. Maybe she is making the best of a less than ideal situation. I will say that I never had a bad customer service experience while subbing. I had a couple of issues and they were always promptly addressed to my satisfaction.

Love Ali, her products, and her classes but refuse to purchase anything from Inked Brands ever again. Ali seems very ethical but unfortunately for her she has hitched her wagon to a disorganized and unethical company. I truly believe that the stench of being associated with Inked Brands and April Foster will end up hurting her business. People will tire of that smell.

I only get the story stamp and while it isn't my favorite I do like it. I also like that this month she did more stamping on her layouts for the class content - sometimes she doesn't or it is just one or two stamps. I like the simplicity of her layouts sometimes. It is interesting how many times she mentioned adding something from the summer chipboard set - vs past story kits but they were so little that it didn't really matter and you could easily use a piece from the kit or past kit instead. I just couldn't justify the $25 price as I only liked a few of the sheets. I will probably drop in the next 6 months as there are a bunch of future topics that I just don't think will fit my stories but we will see. Obviously a lot of people like her simple style and story based approach or she wouldn't be doing as well as she is. I know a lot don't like Inked but so far any time I have had an issue customer service has been great and they fixed the issue promptly. Now I just need to actually start scrapping again and telling some stories and using my stamps and classes I have purchased.
