I recently came into possession of a Pampered Chef Family Heritage Baking Bowl. Do I use it like a typical Pyrex casserole dish? Is there anything important I need to know? There's not much info online because it's been discontinued. I have a PC pie dish that I use sometimes, but this baking bowl is so big, I'm a little puzzled as to how to use it.
TIA!

Is it this bowl?If if is, I have one exactly like it. I had no idea it was discontinued. I also have this deep dish pie baker. I use them together with the pie baker as the lid. I use mine exactly like a casserole dish. When I bought mine many years ago I was told not to use soap on in at first as it would absorb the soap and everything cooked in it would then taste like soap. I've had mine for probably close to 20 years so I don't worry about it anymore. I've used it to make pot roasts and casseroles. You're right, it can be quite heavy so be careful when putting it into and getting it out of the oven.

Mary Kay Lady- I think it's the same one, but the "Family Heritage" label on the bottom is a little different than the one in the picture. I should see if my pie plate fits it.

LOL! I had to pull mine out of the cabinet to double check after reading your response. On the bottom of mine the printing isn't raised like it looks in the Amazon listing. Instead, mine is imprinted. But it does say "Family Heritage Collection." It's about 12 inches across and 4.25 inches deep.
I'm assuming that your piece isn't brand new is it? If it is it will need to be seasoned.

Mary Kay Lady- mine's the same size as yours, gently used, and the "Family Heritage Collection" is impressed on the bottom in an arc. My pie pan definitely doesn't fit, though. So, could I use it to roast a whole chicken in? I don't know why I'm having such a hard time figuring out how to use it. Probably because it's bigger than my other round casserole dishes.

I had the piece you are talking about. I made a few casseroles in mine and occasionally used it as a cover for the Deep Dish Baker, but honestly it was rarely used and took up too much space so I got rid of it.

If a whole chicken fits inside it, I would think that you could. Do you have another lid that would be suitable for covering it while it's in the oven or would you use a piece of aluminum foil?

Mary Kay Lady- I'd use foil. I don't think I have any lids that fit and are oven-safe.

I have a lot of PC stoneware pieces. I am not sure if I have this piece but I think I do and if not I have a few others that are deep and pretty large. I am one that easily lets go of items but I think the stoneware I have a hard time parting with. I really like them. I have cracked a couple over the past 25 years. I have found a few at yard sales paid just a few bucks for ones barely used. As far as what I have used it for I can't add much. Lol I have searched on Pinterest in the past to find ideas. It is often things that I do in my crockpot or Instant pot but I likely will still hang onto them.

This is my albatross baker, it takes up so much space and I only use it once a week or so. It's great for making a loaf of bread. I wish I had the pie plate to use as a lid, maybe I'd start to use it more.
Maybe I need to check out those Pinterest pages!

anonrefugee- I didn't find anything helpful on Pinterest, so I posted on the PC facebook page. Surely there was a recipe book of some sort that came with it? When you bake bread in it, do you make a round "loaf" of yeast bread?
