I've wanted to learn to knit for about a decade and have never gotten around to it. I'm making an effort to make more time for me and would like knitting to be a part of that. So…. how did you learn? What would you recommend? A book? A website? Any guidance appreciated. Thanks.

I relearned by watching YouTube. My grandmother taught me about 50 years ago but I haven't knitted since. My DD totally learned from scratch watching YouTube.

I took a class at the LYS. It was held once a week for 4 weeks.
I've also used you-tube to learn a few techniques.

There is a website for knitters: raverly.com, they have tons of information also.

I recommend taking a class at a local yarn shop. Knittinghelp.com is a good resource for beginning knitting videos.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far. Knowing myself I bet I would do best if I took a class somewhere, but making time for that…… who knows.

A combo of in person knitting classes and YouTube videos for when I get stuck. I've been knitting for awhile now, but I still use YouTube frequently for different types of cast ons and bind offs.
Also, check out craftsy. They have some free knitting classes.

My cousin & her dd helped me on a small bag that we felted during wet cold vacation week. I then took a evening at ds's high school. There were only 7 of us and it was great.

Our class project was a larger felted purse. I watched a you tube video to help me with the handle. I had to watch that video at least ten times!!!!

There is a website for knitters: raverly.com, they have tons of information also. Just so you don't get lost: there's a typo in the name of the site as shown above. It should be www.ravelry.com.
