I like looking the same as my picture in real life! How dumb to have someone run into you and think you aged, got fat, and look tired since your photo last week?? lol. i work in real estate and when some agents got new headshots done, the photographer sent proofs over with some "model" filter... it is just creepy. it made their eyes bigger, the whites of their eyes whiter, face thinner, cheeks contoured, teeth whiter, etc... one agent agreed to do a donation for our school funfair. my friend went to the office to pick up the cheque. when she came out to meet her my friend asked for lillian and the woman replied "oh, i guess we haven't met, i'm lillian". meanwhile, my friend googled her prior to heading over so she would know who she was!!! this is why i don't always wear make up or do my hair everyday. if i am running a bit behind in the morning, i don't want every colleague i pass in the hall to say "oh, are you okay, you don't look very good??". umm, no, i am fine... that is just my face.

It's as simple as putting an app on your phone, requires no special skills. I don't know about Android phones, but on iPhones, there are filters and editing tools built right into the Photos app, so you don't even need a separate app anymore (though the separate apps are more versatile and generally better).

No. I adjust the brightness and sometimes will sharpen it. I do like to add a subtle vignette though. I just like the look. eta: I almost never take selfies. I did once or twice for an avatar picture but that's it. Those are so small there's no point in editing it. Wow, that's you in your avatar? I'd never have guessed Right? That's with NO filter! LOL

There are some on my S8 but the apps are better if you're trying to add fake makeup, blur your face beyond recognition of those who see you on a daily basis in real life, etc. I never use the ones that came with my phone. I only use Snapchat to send DD silly pictures and I can barely handle it. She has apps that can change your whole face if you want.

I recently started playing with filters. I am enjoying them. I do not do anything to faces or bodies or anything like that, just playing around w/ lighting and crisping things up. Like others I am doing this for artsy reasons not to change how I look or anything. I rarely take/post selfies and when I do I want it to look like me

I generally click through them and then realize that all of the instagram filters leave the bags under my eyes just as they were or worse so I leave it plain.
I'm a technology failure.

I am too lazy. My phone doesn't take good pictures so I might lighten a photo, but otherwise I don't bother with pics from my phone. I still use my DSLR and always LR/PS photos. I never alter faces dramatically - usually just touch up undereye bags/circles. For me personally, the best editing is editing you don't notice.

Sometimes I use the standard filters on my iPhone, like to make a picture black and white, or change the colors, but I've never changed my face. Honestly, I don't know how to and I think it looks ridiculous anyway. I have a good friend who does something to all of her pictures and it blurs/smooths her face to the point that she has no nostrils. I'm serious - her nostrils disappear. I want to say something to her but she would probably get pissed. The crazy thing is she get tons of people telling her how good she looks!? I'm sitting there screaming that's not how she looks!

I don't. One, I'm too lazy to do that. And two, what you see is what you get.
I also don't photoshop my pics before I print/scrap them. i want the pictures to look like they did in real life.

If you all are talking about using apps on a phone I don't take any photos with my phone. I still use my Nikon DSLR to take photos. I got my first smart phone this spring when I went on my trip to Europe (a used Iphone 4S) and while I have figured out how to take photos on it, it's so unnatural to me that I can't get comfortable taking photos this way. It feels so awkward after using a DSR for 38 years (first film, then digital). Yeah, I'm a dinosaur.

DH was the only one who used it while we were on vacation. me, i use my iphone to take pics. they've come a long way with their cameras and the ease of using it and having on you at all times makes me prefer it over my DSLR that, sadly, just sits unused.

To me the iphone to take photos feels too small, too lightweight and for a perfectionist like me I don't have enough control over it. But like I said I've been in love with and have been using an SLR of some type since 1979. It feels so good in my hand, like it is part of me. To each her own and as long as we are happy that is what matters, right?

I don't take selfies to upload to FB, and even if I did I would not use filters. Everyone knows what I really look like! I will admit to lightening my teeth in photos on the odd occasion. One time I had a photo taken with a friend who had just had lovely new veneers put on her teeth and my teeth looked so yellow compared to hers! So I guess I am a bit vain in that regard.

Yes. VSCO is my favorite photo editing app. I don’t mostly because I don’t have any photo apps with filters but may try this one out. I don’t really post photos of myself much though so not sure this app will make any difference. Lol.

Not on myself I don't! I am embarrassed for the filter queens I know. I like looking the same as my picture in real life! How dumb to have someone run into you and think you aged, got fat, and look tired since your photo last week?? lol. Only time I mess with a picture is if the photo doesn't represent what it really looks like. Like if gray looks blue in a picture of a dress I'm asking a friend for an opinion on, I'll alter the colors so it looks closer. I only just realized why so many people love selfies. I was so confused as to why I'd see people in crowded places holding their phones up to capture themselves instead of asking someone else to take the picture. It's because they can't see themselves to make it "cute!" Posing for a picture by kissing my lips or angling my face a certain way is such a foreign subject for me that I just didn't get it. Until I saw some girl strike the most ridiculous pose while staring at herself several minutes. And then it clicked. It also gives them control to retake over and over and over.... weird! papersilly you know what else I recently discovered? I have a new S8+. I was exploring all of the photo options and special effects one day, and found that you can actually save a filter on your phone for every single photo! So I can say, slim my face 20%, give me 15% larger eyes, smooth my skin 50%, and add a little pink to my cheeks AUTOMATICALLY every time I take a photo. I think it's bizarre, personally. I live near a university and there are several college kids that live on our street. Early one morning I happened to glance out the front window and saw the college kid across the street come out of his house and he immediately started taking selfies. Over and over and over. He would move his face and occasionally adjust his hat. The whole process took several minutes. I couldn't stop looking at him taking selfies. I know I sound like the creepy middle aged neighbor but I found it fascinating. I'll give him a pass for wanting to get his hat just right since he is a fashion design student!

Here we see the college male in his natural habitat. Watch as he adjusts his hat and angles his face in a bizarre ritual in order to attract a mate. He tries relentlessly to get the pose just right. Unfortunately he is unsuccessful...
