i'm super late to the party but i didn't know that using photo filters was a thing. i noticed a couple of people on my FB started looking "different" when they posted selfies. when i saw one of them in real life, she look way different than her pics. that's when i clued in on the filter. i brought up the subject to a friend and she told me she uses filters too and hers are not the subtle kind either. some pics i see look like they are made of wax, their skin is so smooth and flawless.
i don't use filters. what you see is what you get. uneven, older (and occasional acne) skin tone and all. i'm curious. do you use photo filters?

No, I don't. Mostly because I'm to lazy and I really don't take that many photo's to post.

No, but I have friends that do. It looks ridiculous when they take it too far. They look like they are twenty, their skin is way more than flawless, and I always think that they have lost a ton of weight. Of course, people comment that they haven't aged a bit and that that they look amazing. Then I see them, and I have to do a double take. I could see a little bit, but the waxy look is too much.

Nope. Every one I've ever seen looks ridiculous. And I don't take any selfies unless it's of me and my family together.
I will adjust color or light if it helps the picture technically, but I don't use any "corrective" or "vanity" filters.

No. I adjust the brightness and sometimes will sharpen it. I do like to add a subtle vignette though. I just like the look.
eta: I almost never take selfies. I did once or twice for an avatar picture but that's it. Those are so small there's no point in editing it.

Always I make every picture brighter. I am not a fan of skin softening filters or bold chrome colors. I'm not big on selfies, I take one a year maybe.

Not usually. Sometimes I like to play with them, especially the ones that simulate golden hour or other lighting. But usually I don't and the vast majority of pics I post are straight from my camera.

Nope. I share me, scars and all. I may crop the picture just a little but that is it.

I'll use some filters to sharpen or color correct, crop or delete an object, but I don't usually use the filters you are describing. But my dad does! I think his photos can look fake and are obviously doctored. He doesn't use the skin ones as much, but will add my kids into a sunset, blur out large objects in the photo, and skew things to "correct the perspective." He's 75 and happy, so I just fuss over them and move on.

i agree with the lighting adjustment to pics. this i've done a million times despite the vast improvement in the iPhone's camera.

No, I will only adjust the lighting if the picture is too dark.
I have some friends that go way overboard with the skin smoothing filters. I don't post "hey look at how cute I am pictures" though. That being said I won't post an unflattering picture of myself or others.

Eh, I do sometimes. Sometimes lighting, etc. can make you look a lot worse than you do in real life and I don't mind a few tweaks to better represent reality. That said, I'm 44 and have a few wrinkles here and there - I always make sure that any filter/adjustment I do use isn't so strong that the wrinkles are gone because then I know it's over processed.
I have some friends who should be forbidden from using Facetune ever again.
ETA: ^^This is only about selfies and other pictures of me and/or other people. Other pictures I filter, edit, etc. however I like.

No, I'm very technically challenged and haven't a clue how to do any of that kind of stuff. Plus having to use a Linex system on my computer (DH insists on it because he says that way we won't get any viruses-he's in the IT field) makes doing anything even more complicated. One day I hope to get an Apple computer to make things much more intuitive for me but until then my photos are exactly how I shoot them. No post processing at all.
I think back to that famous line from Jurassic Park, "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Photo shopping things (and I mean that in the generic sense) from what I've seen can be overly done, and often is.

No, unless I'm trying to be artsy. I've noticed a few friends using them lately and it's really obvious. We're 45 and suddenly you look like someone took an eraser to your face to make you look 25...lol
And the fake makeup, etc. (I like when the lashes or brows don't quite match up)
Always someone will comment "girl you haven't changed a bit, you look awesome" and I'm unsure if they're serious or being catty. Hehe

I don't use Facetune or photoshop or anything like that. Occasionally I'll post something from Snapchat, and anyone with snapchat knows they have that one filter that makes everyone look amazing. I use that a lot in my fitness group b/c sweaty selfies are just ugh, but they really like us to post them to stay accountable. But it's not like I hide it - I also sometimes use snapchat filters that make me look like a cat. Hopefully people know those are filters. Ha! I don't use filtered photos for Facebook profile pictures out of principle. But I DO make sure I have good lighting - to me that's smart, not cheating! If I took a picture of me today, I wouldn't look like my Facebook page. It's not an altered photo, I just had good lighting and good hair that day. Today I'm bloated from vacation and need to wash my hair.

I usually end up using PicTapGo and at least brightening and sometimes do more.

Not on myself I don't! I am embarrassed for the filter queens I know. I like looking the same as my picture in real life! How dumb to have someone run into you and think you aged, got fat, and look tired since your photo last week?? lol. Only time I mess with a picture is if the photo doesn't represent what it really looks like. Like if gray looks blue in a picture of a dress I'm asking a friend for an opinion on, I'll alter the colors so it looks closer. I only just realized why so many people love selfies. I was so confused as to why I'd see people in crowded places holding their phones up to capture themselves instead of asking someone else to take the picture. It's because they can't see themselves to make it "cute!" Posing for a picture by kissing my lips or angling my face a certain way is such a foreign subject for me that I just didn't get it. Until I saw some girl strike the most ridiculous pose while staring at herself several minutes. And then it clicked. It also gives them control to retake over and over and over.... weird! papersilly you know what else I recently discovered? I have a new S8+. I was exploring all of the photo options and special effects one day, and found that you can actually save a filter on your phone for every single photo! So I can say, slim my face 20%, give me 15% larger eyes, smooth my skin 50%, and add a little pink to my cheeks AUTOMATICALLY every time I take a photo. I think it's bizarre, personally.

I crop and use filters to brighten, enhance color or desaturate. I don’t have filters that make your face look better (What kind of filters are those, anyway?)
I am a Photoshop user so I could go in and whiten teeth, remove wrinkles, etc. But I don’t. Do you think that’s what your friends are doing?

No filters. I don't do any editing at all to phone pictures. When I'm using my good camera I like to do some editing, but mostly for lighting, cropping and typical stuff like that.

No filters for me. I actually don't know how and don't really have that extensive of an interest in photography to do that.
I have a girlfriend that constantly posts filtered selfies. She's 55 and looks 55. On Facebook she could pass for 35.

I like to lighten and brighten up my pictures. But, I am not a selfie person. I rarely post pictures of just me. No, I don't. There are apps like Photowonder, Facetune...they can give you a complete overhaul just on your phone. I hardly use Photoshop any more! I only use editing apps to change the brightness, colour saturation, alignment etc. I don't do any of the heavy stuff especially on people. If you use the right lighting and take photos from a decent angle, you can get great pictures without looking 'fake'.

I don't know how to find them or use them, so no. I also don't post selfies.
Last year my sister in law (who I don't see in real life) started eating healthy and doing beachbody. I commented that her skin was looking great and asked if she thought it was because of her lifestyle change. She said no, that it was the filter she uses. Before that I had no idea that people did that.
