I'm in a Starbucks. They still have a number of tables outside. A woman just parked out front, right by one of the tables, got her toddler out of the backseat (which I can see is empty but for the carseat), and changed the child's diaper on the table. Not even a mat or anything. Then threw away the diaper, got back in the car and drove off.

Ok, now I understand why I should not pick up food I've dropped on to a table and put it back on my plate.

Unless the kid was a poopy mess, she could change him standing up. I know that's not the cleanest or most ideal scenario, but a whole lot better than using a restaurant table! UGH! And if he WAS a poopy mess, that's double the reason NOT to use a table!

What is wrong with people? I'm sure someone will chime in and say that we should have compassion as women and mothers because maybe baby has tummy issues and maybe mom is frazzled and girl power, but geez. This is disgusting, and I'd have no problem telling that "lady" so.
It's amazing how many people don't seem to understand that restrooms exist for a reason. Bathroom functions, while natural, need not - and should not - be a public spectacle. For many reasons, not the least of which is HYGIENE.
Your child might be doing their business in a diaper, but you are still dealing with BODILY WASTE. Keep that shit - literal shit - off of the surfaces and out of the spaces that people use for eating.

In the same situation, when my son was little, I would have changed him in the backseat of our car (though I always used a changing mat too). She had ample room in there - I don't know what she was thinking. There aren't really any public restrooms in this area except in businesses, which usually limit them to customers, so I can even give her not using a restroom. But... she had her own alternate place to do it without fouling a place people eat! I don't understand some people.

I think sometimes people only think about themselves and what will be easiest for them. They rationalize their actions to make themselves feel better. Nope. Not okay with me. At least if a bird laid a turd on the table, I could see it.

I was at a restaurant/bar one day and a lady in a table near us plopped her kid on the table and changed her diaper right there! This is not a kid-friendly restaurant (Max's Wine Dive for the locals), but no one said anything - I think because we were all so shocked!

I mentioned in another thread that we witnessed the same in a posh restaurant. Other diners complained. We sat open mouthed and watched this tableau fold with fascinated horror. The staff pointed out to this piece of goods that there was a well equipped parent and baby room just yards away, but no. She was too special to use it. Her party left pretty soon after, with some of them looking a bit sheepish. The staff completely stripped the table and disinfected it, apologising constantly to the other diners. Funny thing was, all the diners were of one accord about this, were supportive of the staff and actually chatted to people at other tables.
Altogether an interesting day.

I must admit nothing surprises me any more!
This is certainly the age of entitlement and some people just seem to think that it is their 'right' to do what they want, when they want and where they want. Heaven help us when these younger children get older there will be no discipline in society as some of them, I'm sure, have not heard the word 'no'.

I watched a TV show (reality) years ago where a lady helped rich people with their pregnancy/baby issues. This one soon-to-be dad said that they weren't going to use diapers. That him and his wife would "just know" when the baby had to pee/poop so they would bring the baby to the bathroom to hold them over the toilet. He was very strong about his opinion. The lady planned a day out with him and a doll where they had lunch, did a little shopping, etc. She told him how often a baby goes to the bathroom. He said he would be fine, that he could get the baby to the bathroom in plenty of time. She had a turkey baster with yellow/brownish liquid in it and she would set a timer and every so often she would tell him he had so many seconds to get the baby to the bathroom. If he didn't make it, she would squirt the liquid onto whatever the baby was near. The table, the counter at a high class clothing store, etc. He even held the doll over a trash can on the street corner. Needless to say, he changed his mind about diapers.

WTF. Why the table, not that it'd be a whole lot better, but at least use a chair instead of the table! When my yds was born ods had just begun playing travel basketball (there's a 9 year age difference), I had to change plenty of diapers in less than ideal locations (high schools don't have changing tables in the restrooms): backseat of the car, hatch of an suv, on my lap in a bathroom, in the infant carrier, as soon as he could stand we did it standing up......not once did I change a diaper on a table or anywhere where someone would eat.....heck not even where someone could see/smell. You do what ya gotta do......discreetly and for the love of god not near an eating area!

It wouldn't ever cross my mind to plop the kid on a restaurant table to change her! Just gross. What's really dumb about the whole scenario is that the kid is wearing a diaper so why not just wait until you get home or where ever you're going and deal with it then? Geez.

I can't understand people who discard used diapers (including poop) in the high school parking lot, even though there is a trash can steps away.

My theory has always been that the people who change kids in public, don't remove crying babies from theatres and run over you with their strollers will be the ones complaining the loudest when their kids are older and other parents are doing the same things they did.

In his defense it's called elimination communication and I used it with my kids. I used diapers too though, I just had a lot less poopy diapers to deal with. Chinese people use it but they also let their kids run around with no diaper and an outfit with a split in the bum. That was too much for me, but the holding your kid over the toilet is much easier than cleaning a poopy diaper, although I've had some of those to deal with too, just less than most folks who do diapers then traditional potty training.

What shocked me most is that she actually threw away the diaper and didn't just leave it there. EW!

Several years ago I had a young man (11) who could not tie his shoes. His mom said he other more important things to learn, like gaming so he could run his own software company. She honestly believed he would be the head of his own business. He also had no interest in learning to write beyond a simple sentence and could not add without using his fingers. During the state testing (on computers) he fell asleep and drooled on the keyboard. (By then he had been pulled out of my class because I was so mean.) Oy! What are parents thinking?

I watched someone change a poopy diaper, not use toilet paper or any kind of wipe, and rediaper the child. Then she rolled up the diaper and tossed it.....into the water on The Jungle Cruise, at Disneyland. I would guess the child was about 2, and the mother didn't even have another diaper ready. She just let him stand there with his penis in full view of one side of the boat, his little booty to the other side; while she went digging through her backpack. Security was waiting for them when we docked. Two cast members were waiting for rest of us, to issue a Fastpass to any attraction, because our experience was not up to Disney standards. It was over 10 years ago, and remains one of the top 10 strangest things I've ever witnessed in public....and I live in Las Vegas.
