That you can stand an egg on end today? Try this with your kids/grandkids. It's a fun teaching moment. The first egg I tried would not cooperate, but the second one was easy.

Save[/quote To my embarrassment, I did this with my son's 1st grade class. And THEN looked up all the whys. The teacher turned it into a great science lesson tho!

I have to do more digging, but from what I can remember from my embarrassment.
The wider bottom older eggs are easier to balance, plus telling someone that it can be done goes a long way in accomplishing the egg balancing trick.
Older eggs have a bigger air bubble inside making the mass inside the egg thicker.
All in all this is a fantastic lesson to do with kids.
