I'm 51 and tired of the barrel. I carried twins full term in my 30's and then my bonus when I was 40. I eat fairly well. Definitely need to up the water. My question is exercise - I know I cannot spot reduce. Cardio? Weights? What's the best way to "widdle my middle"? Don't need fast - don't expect fast. Just effective.....go!

I have had success reducing carbs and doing cardio( jogging) and weights. I just made a commitment to do at least 1/2 hour each day of some sort of exercise. Seems the middle is the hardest to lose! Good luck

I exercise 3 times a week but am bad about eating. There's a saying that abs are made in the kitchen. That being said I just try to dress in a way to hide me flaws like with a full skirt or dress. I just posted this to another thread but my new thing is to wear a backless strapless bra with those full skirts, it pushes all my fat into a roll but it makes a bit of waist and the roll is hidden under the full skirt. From what most people tell me, if you build muscle, eventually it starts burning off your fat more efficiently. So I do mostly weight training and only do about 10 minutes of stair master at the end or zumba on the 4th day if I do an extra day.

The easiest way I have found is Pilates.
It is gentle and while it does not seem to have a short term impact suddenly you see a difference but you feel the difference first.

I'm not small and I didn't eat right......but I had twins and an emergency c-section that left me with a kangaroo stomach. I started working with a clean eating coach and I have to say deleting things from my diet had a massive change in my middle. I gave up a lot..... key items that I think made a change are no sugar, no dairy and no processed foods. Try switching up what you eat. I've lost 47 pounds in about 5-6 months.
I do have to start working out. My stomach has flattened, but I have no muscle tone. After my C-section I'm not really expecting to get much!

Sugar is my belly's frenemy. Sure, it tastes good, but it bloats me and blows up my abdomen like nothing else. A healthier diet, low in carbs, will definitely help get rid of some of the extra around your middle.

If you want to start easy, start walking. Easy, free, enjoyable and you will see a difference.
It's whittle, not widdle.

I've lost about 25 lbs that I've kept off since last October. I started using MFP and tracking calories mostly, but also carbs to some extent because I know they're my kryptonite. I cut way, way back on sugar and bread. I do still have some of that stuff because complete deprivation doesn't work for me long term, but now it's a conscious choice.
Having said that, one thing I really noticed since doing this is that I'm almost never bloated like I was before. Seriously, it was like I was seven months pregnant all the time before! So even though I'm still way out of shape and know I need to tone things up, I FEEL thinner because I'm not so bloated anymore.

Sugar, processed foods, and white, refined flours are the worst for my tummy shape. I don't exercise tons, but a mix of cardio and strength help too. Although the flattest my tummy ever was after 2 kids was when I was a runner. But for me, it is so much more about what I eat. I find that intermittent fasting also helps with the bloaty feeling and look.

The less I have the flatter my stomach. I mean I always have a bit of a pooch but it's reasonably flat when I cut out the crap. I have a really low down flabby bit that only a tummy tuck would make disappear.

Abs definitely start in the kitchen. I cut all "whites" and most carbs 2 years ago. I drink a gallon of water a day and a cup of butter coffee in the morning and that's it- except an alcohol splurge once in a while. My diet is "lazy keto"- I don't measure or track anything- just aim for protein and good fats. Cardio will definitely help, but I would rather have my teeth drilled. I lift weights, lunge, squat, and plank- along with a few more ab exercises. It has definitely helped, but I am still searching for the flat tummy. If I were you, I would start with my diet, up water intake, and just start moving. Find what you like to do. It has to be a lifestyle change.

I've felt better and slimmer once I cut out the sugar and processed foods.

Just another vote for eliminating all processed foods and sugars.
It is so so so SO hard! But after twins and my bonus, I have been successful. Tummy is not toned, but it is not bulgy anymore. I wish it were toned, but I'll take this for now!!
It is really hard to do this, but worth it.

Do you have diastasis recti? I have had four large-ish babies (for my frame, anyway) by c-section and still have diastasis recti. It is becoming more commonly known about and there are more exercises that you can find online to help. But I just got the Trim Healthy Mama workin program which is supposed to help with DR and strengthening core that is weakened by pregnancy and childbirth. Hoping it helps. I have weight to lose as well but the DR makes me still look about 5 months pregnant.
