I'm at a very large well attended craft show. There is a vendor who sells personalized slate signs. Every single one I have seen is grammatically incorrect. And tons of people buy them. So, does no one notice that they are wrong or what. I wouldn't purchase one.

Are you sure it's not you spelling it wrong? lol Just kidding.
Is it the apostrophe placement? Some people have difficulty with that one. I still can't believe someone close to her hasn't said something to her.

I see that more often lately. It always makes me cringe.

It is the apostrophe.
House signs. The Smith's.
I want to politely tell them it's wrong, but will they really believe me. They are selling tons.

My last name has 2 s at the end of it. Does that make it like Adamsses? I know that's the wrong spelling but I don't want to write my last name down. The possessive would be Adamsses' house? I can't remember!

I knew it was the apostrophe! Tons of people are buying the signs because that many people think it's right. I couldn't even count the number of people on here who can't use an apostrophe correctly. "My parent's house" is very common.

It's a common mistake. You would think someone making signs like that would know better but many times they don't. If I was going to be there the whole weekend sitting across from them, I would probably print something off from the internet and drop it off anonymously before they got to their booth in the morning!

It makes me insane! Also, I see signs people put in other languages that are always incorrect.

This is a great idea! It would annoy me too. But so many folks think that an apostrophe automatically goes with a plural s, especially for a proper name and they are probably requesting that spelling!

I can't remember! Yes, you are correct. It would be Adamsses for plural and Adamsses' for possessive. My last name also ends in a sibilant (but not s) so I had to look this up after I got married to know the right way to spell it!

What if there is only one parent there? I love a good grammar argument!! Grammar bitches unite!! 99% of the time, one would say, "My mom's house" or "My dad's' s house". Rarely do you hear anyone say "My parent's house", meaning one parent. More often, one would say "My parents' house", meaning both parents. I really do want to know how the false apostrophe has become such a huge thing in the last few years though.

For your viewing pleasure... My BFF sent this for my birthday last year. The mock up was correct on the website, but not when I got it in the mail. I was an English major and an editor in my pre-kid years. I could have sent it back, but it makes me laugh every time I see it. It came from a vendor overseas and I lived in Seoul for 2 years. There's a lot of signage and clothing with English on them, and there'a almost always something just a bit off about them. We called it the Land of the Not Quite Right.

A parent organization affiliated with our high school just sent out a flier on social media for a fundraiser and it has a misplaced apostrophe in the word "towns". It's all over my FB feed and it might as well be a flashing neon light because that's all I see when it pops up.

To be fair, anyone listening to the song sings it exactly like it was printed. ANDI runs together so well.

I have two kids who go to the same school. I hate that autocorrect constantly tries to change "kids' school" to "kid's school". I got a new keyboard app so hoping it is smarter!

It was much easier to just be the Adams family and avoid the issue altogether.

That was when I decided to switch to country music listening in the car for a couple of years. The 80's had the best music.

I once saw "Puppie's for sale." It scarred me for life, I think. (And yes, it was multiple puppies, not just someone misspelling puppy or anything.)

"My parent's house" is very common. If you only have one parent.... it works. Or if it is the house of only one of your parents.

I thought that was OK on something like a house sign because what it's really saying is "The Smith's (House)" only the word house is dropped. Feel free to flame me all you want- I 100% acknowledge I might be wrong. I'm just saying that this isn't one of those errors that set my teeth on edge. I work at a school, and I saw a new sign in the parking lot on the first teacher institute day of the year. "BUS'S ONLY" I about had a heart attack and ran into my principal's office as soon as I walked into the building. "OMG you HAVE to take that sign down RIGHT NOW." Got a special mention at the school-wide staff meeting for that one.

I've seen many signs, not just personalized ones, with mistakes. I simply don't buy them.
I pointed out a mistake to someone once. I got the cold shoulder from them for a couple of years.

Belia, good point. Who knows. I just keep thinking, out of all these people here, there has to be an English teacher somewhere that would point it out. I can't even fathom the amount of money they are making on these things.
