HOW TO GET PAST THE WASHINGTON POST PAYWALL
At least on Apple mobile devices. I read primarily on my iPad and occasionally on my iPhone, via the Safari browser. Sometimes I get blocked, sometimes not.
When I do get blocked, here's what I do: at the top of the page, on the left side of the address bar, there are 3-4 little lines representing text. Click on that to go to what's called Reader View. Same text, fewer pictures and ads. I have never been blocked from Reader View.
I don't know if it works in other browsers. I don't know if it works on other brands of mobile devices. I don't know if it works on real computers, either Apple or PC. We do have an Apple desktop computer here ... I never use it, but I guess I could get on and check it out if people are interested.
Another option ... every time the WaPo blocks me, they ask if I'm still a subscriber to my local paper. It says if I am (which I am), I'm entitled to continue reading the WaPo for free due to their sharing agreement with the San Jose Mercury-News group. I just need to find my login info and resubmit it. um. One of these days.
So if you get a local paper, you may be covered by a similar agreement with the WaPo. Worth checking out.
And as a final resort, if someone posts a link you can't access, try asking her politely to post the text there in the thread. No need to get angry and hostile.

I had no idea wapo had a paywall. I've never hit it apparently. My local paper has one, I just open a different browser, go on my phone, a different computer or my kindle. I pretty much haven't been locked out yet. oops.

Or you could subscribe...I am pretty happy with my subscription. Yeah, that. Love you, Lucy, but journalism isn’t free. They have paywalls for a reason. And anyone who has Prime can get a sub for six months for free and $3.99/mo thereafter.

Or you could subscribe...I am pretty happy with my subscription. Yes, absolutely ... I should have started with that. LMAO, why the crap is this labeled as politics?? Because who besides the political peas wants to read the Washington Post? I mostly look right past all the non-political threads. It needs red letters in front of it to catch my eye. Love you, Lucy, but journalism isn’t free. They have paywalls for a reason. And anyone who has Prime can get a sub for six months for free and $3.99/mo thereafter. You are absolutely right, too. I guess I don't worry about it because I'm actually entitled to be reading, just haven't linked up the accounts yet. I would absolutely encourage people to pay for the WaPo or NYT, pay for your local news, or pay for SOMEthing that puts money in the media's pockets. Because we need the news now more than ever. This isn't something to cheap out about in the long run. I just got really, really tired of the whining over paywalls in another thread.

Another thing to check is your local library - mine offers free digital access to the NYT.

Also, if you're an Amazon Prime member, you get 6 months for free. After that the digital edition is just $3.99

Also, it's my hometown paper and I read it even before trump was inflicted on us.

LMAO, why the crap is this labeled as politics?? Because who besides the political peas wants to read the Washington Post?Um, for those of us in the DC-VA-MD area, the Washington Post IS our local paper. It's not all politics & not only for political peas. Also, the Post (and probably most periodicals) allow a certain amount of their content to be read/downloaded electronically without payment for non-subscribers. But once you hit the monthly threshold, they'll ask you to subscribe for additional content. ETA: I see monklady123 already beat me to it to chime in for the DC-area peas ! Save
