I am finally getting pretty counters in my kitchen!! They were always the first thing removed from the upgrade list in an effort to cut the total cost. It was always "someday".... Someday is here! A friend of ours works for a countertop company, and I'm meeting him today to pick mine out!!! It is ridiculous how very excited I am about this. **UPDATE** So the original plan was to do something quiet around the outside and something wow on the island. After an hour of looking at samples (and totally falling in love with the NEW, VERY expensive one - I did walk away) I brought home the narrowed down choices. The consensus in the house is now to do the same one everywhere - the one on top: It is by Wilsonart - Kolams is the name: Wilsonart - Kolams

Congrats! We redid our kitchen 10+ years ago and I still love my counters as much today as I did the day they went in. Lots of people think it's crazy to spend so much on counters when you can put in laminate or something, but omg worth every penny! (I'm all for doing what you love, my sister put in laminate and it still looks nice many years later so i'm not knocking it.)

I wanted wood countertops , but that didn't seem possible until I went to a garage sale and it was a lumber sale. I now have walnut countertops.
It's a great feeling when you get what you want.

I have walnut counter tops too...My husband and I did them ourselves, it was a labour of love for real but we really love them!

I am jealous.
I really wanted my new house to have quartz countertops. We wanted to put in an offer on a new house that had quartz countertops but there was already an offer in on it. So we bought this house instead, it was already finished and had laminate counters. They are nice, but they are not quartz. Turns out this house is a better house, protected grasslands behind us, but I still want my quartz one day!
Enjoy your new counters!

Changing our worn out laminate countertop to granite totally updated my kitchen and I still love it 5 years later.

cakediva That is very similar to the Silestone countertop in my new kitchen. I have slightly less marbling, which I actually regret. I put the same, but with more marbling, like yours, in our MBR.

I completely understand your excitement. I'm trying to make a final determination on my new countertop as well and having a hard time choosing. Was it the durability that led you to quartz? Did you consider marble?

I have a brown, black, tan and tiny flecks of gold and cream granite countertop. Just my one large patch of granite is 10" x 4'. It is still dreamy after 10 years.

Completely understand. After 23 years with gold laminate counter tops finally got granite this summer.
